Chemical Name: POLYMYXIN (pol-i-MIX-in) B and BACITRACIN (bass-i-TRAY-sin)
This medicine is an antibiotic combination used to treat eye infections.
INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding.
This medicine may be used around the eye or in the eye. TO USE THIS MEDICINE IN THE EYE: first, wash your hands. Pull the lower eyelid away from your eye to form a pouch. Squeeze a thin strip of ointment into the pouch. After using the medicine, gently close your eyes and keep them closed for 1 or 2 minutes. Wash your hands to remove any medicine that may be on them. Wipe the applicator tip with a clean, dry tissue. TO PREVENT GERMS FROM ENTERING THE MEDICINE, do not touch the applicator tip to any surface including the eye. Keep the container tightly closed. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature, away from heat and light. TO CLEAR UP YOUR INFECTION COMPLETELY, continue using this medicine for the full course of treatment. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.
IF YOUR SYMPTOMS DO NOT IMPROVE within a few days or if they become worse, check with your doctor. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE blurred vision when you first put it in your eye. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you can see clearly. It is usually recommended that you DO NOT WEAR CONTACT LENSES while using this medicine. Check with your doctor before wearing them. Sterilize contact lenses according to manufacturer's directions. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy.
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include burning or stinging. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience itching or swelling of eyelid; redness; or worsening of pain. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN. IF USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
