Chemical Name: POVIDONE (POE-vi-done), SODIUM HYALURONATE (hye-a-loo-ROE-nate), and GLYCYRRHETINIC ACID
This medicine is used to manage and relieve pain and irritation to the mouth that may occur as a result of oral surgery, braces, trauma, disease, or following cancer chemotherapy or radiation therapy. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.
Follow the directions for using the medicine provided by your doctor or on the package. This medicine may come with a patient information leaflet. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about using this medicine. This medicine should be diluted with water before using. However, if water it not available it may be used undiluted. To dilute the medicine, pour the entire contents of one packet into a glass and mix with 1 tablespoon (15ml) of water. Stir the mixture well. If the mixture is too thick you may add an additional 1 or 2 tablespoons (15 or 30ml) of water and stir. Use the medicine immediately after mixing. Rinse or swish the medicine around the mouth for at least one minute or as long as possible. Coat the entire area including the tongue, top of the mouth, throat, and inside of the cheeks. Gargle and spit the medicine out. Try not to swallow. Side effects are not expected to occur though if you accidentally swallow the medicine. Do not eat or drink for at least one hour after using this medicine. DO NOT USE THE MEDICINE after the expiration date listed on the package. DO NOT USE THE MEDICINE if the packet is torn or damaged in any way. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature away from heat and light. Do not refrigerate. If you miss a dose of this medicine and you are using it regularly, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. DO NOT use 2 doses at once.
DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. The gel may become darker and thicker over time. This does not affect the way the medicine works. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
NO COMMON SIDE EFFECTS HAVE BEEN REPORTED with the proper use of this medicine. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice any unusual effects, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. If your symptoms do not improve within 7 days or if they become worse, check with your doctor. Follow all instructions for good oral care while using this medicine. Using a soft bristle toothbrush or an alcohol-free mouthwash may also help reduce mouth irritation. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information. DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children. IF YOU WILL BE USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, be sure to obtain the necessary refills before your supply runs out.
