Chemical Name: POLYETHYLENE (pol-ee-ETH-i-leen) GLYCOL (GLYE-kole) ELECTROLYTE SOLUTION

Common uses
This medicine is a laxative used to clean out the bowel before surgery or other procedures. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Before using
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING MAY BE NEEDED if this medicine is given through a tube to patients who are unconscious or semi-conscious. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including throat (esophagus) disease, ulcerative colitis, heart disease (such as abnormal heart rhythms or congestive heart failure), swallowing problems (such as history of aspiration or regurgitation), impaired gag reflex, electrolyte imbalances (such as high blood potassium levels), history of alcohol use, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have appendicitis or a history of stomach or bowel disease (including bowel obstruction). Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.

Directions
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Your doctor will tell you when to start using this medicine. DO NOT EAT ANY SOLID FOODS for at least 2 hours before beginning this medicine. It is preferred that you do not eat for 3 to 4 hours before beginning the medicine. DRINK ONLY CLEAR LIQUIDS and do not eat any solid foods from the time you start this medicine until your procedure is complete. BEFORE USING THIS MEDICINE fill the container with the amount of water indicated on the package label. Use lukewarm water to mix this medicine to help the medicine dissolve faster. SHAKE WELL. CHILLING THIS MEDICINE improves the taste. Do not add sugar, sweetening agents, or other additives to this medicine. SHAKE WELL before taking each dose. DRINK 8 OUNCES (240ml) of this medicine every 10 minutes until the stool is watery, clear, and free of all solid matter, or until the medicine is gone. At least 3 liters is usually required to produce the watery stool. It is best to drink all of this medicine. Be sure to follow the instructions provided by your doctor. It is best to drink each portion quickly rather than sipping it. Rinsing your mouth with mouthwash after each glass of medicine may help get rid of the taste. Before mixing, STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature (59-86 degrees F) in a tightly-closed container away from heat and light. After preparing the solution, STORE THIS MEDICINE in the refrigerator in a tightly-closed container. Use within 48 hours.Discard any unused portion of this medicine. NOTIFY YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you are unable to finish taking this medicine prior to your test.

Cautions
DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. THE FIRST BOWEL MOVEMENT usually occurs about 1 hour after you begin drinking the medicine. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. Other medicines taken by mouth within 1 hour of taking this medicine may not be absorbed or be effective. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions about how to take your other medicines with this medicine. Some of these products contain phenylalanine. If you must have a diet that is low in phenylalanine, ask your pharmacist if it is in your product. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU ARE PREGNANT OR PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Possible side effects
SIDE EFFECTS, that may occur during treatment, include nausea, bloating, increased thirst, stomach fullness or cramps, vomiting, or rectal irritation. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience seizure, persistent or severe nausea and vomiting, vomiting of blood, severe stomach pain, severe stomach bloating or swelling, slow or irregular heartbeat, chest pain, muscle weakness, or trouble sleeping. An allergic reaction to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your healthcare provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.
