Tell your doctor if you have glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, an enzyme deficiency, or if you at risk for low levels of folate in the blood (eg, you have alcoholism, you are elderly, you do not absorb nutrients from food properly, you are in a poor nutritional state, you are taking medicine for seizures). USE OF SEPTRA DS 800-160mg IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have anemia caused by low levels of folate in the blood, urinary blockage, or if you are in week 38 of pregnancy or later (full-term) or breast-feeding. Use of Septra Ds 800-160mg in children younger than 2 months old is not recommended; safety and effectiveness in these children have not been confirmed. Discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits of giving Septra Ds 800-160mg to your child. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Septra Ds 800-160mg.

Cautions
DO NOT TAKE SEPTRA DS 800-160mg if you have had an allergic reaction to it or if you are allergic to any ingredient in this product. IF YOU HAVE HAD A SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTION to Septra Ds 800-160mg or any other sulfonamide medicine (such as Septra DS, Bactrim DS, Gantrisin, glyburide, or probenecid), contact your doctor or pharmacist before taking Septra Ds 800-160mg. A severe reaction includes a severe rash, hives, breathing difficulties, or dizziness. If you have a question about whether you are allergic to Septra Ds 800-160mg or if a certain medicine is a sulfonamide, contact your doctor or pharmacist. IF YOU EXPERIENCE difficulty breathing; tightness of chest; swelling of eyelids, face, or lips; or if you develop a rash or hives, tell your doctor immediately. DO NOT treat diarrhea without first checking with your doctor. BE SURE TO USE SEPTRA DS 800-160mg for the full course of treatment. If you do not, the medicine may not clear up your infection completely. The bacteria could also become less sensitive to this or other medicines. This could make the infection harder to treat in the future. SEPTRA DS 800-160mg ONLY WORKS AGAINST BACTERIA; it does not treat viral infections (eg, the common cold). LONG-TERM OR REPEATED USE of Septra Ds 800-160mg may cause a second infection. Tell your doctor if signs of a second infection occur. Your medicine may need to be changed to treat this. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING SEPTRA DS 800-160mg IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine.
