Tablets
Chemical Name: PHENAZOPYRIDINE (fen-ay-zoe-PIR-i-deen)

Common uses
This medicine is a urinary tract analgesic used to relieve pain, burning, and other discomfort caused by infection or irritation of the lower urinary tract. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Before using
INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including an enzyme deficiency called glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) deficiency, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. TELL YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU HAVE A HISTORY OF BLOOD PROBLEMS (eg, hemolysis) or a family history of G-6-PD deficiency. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have decreased kidney function. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.

Directions
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. TAKE THIS MEDICINE by mouth after meals. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C), in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. Taking this medicine at the same time each day will help you to remember. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Cautions
DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. If your symptoms do not improve within 2 days or if they become worse, check with your doctor. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or use this medicine for longer than 2 days without checking with your doctor. THIS MEDICINE MAY AFFECT CERTAIN LAB TEST RESULTS. Make sure laboratory personnel and your doctors know you use this medicine. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE THE URINE to turn an orange to red color. This is harmless but it may stain fabric. DO NOT WEAR SOFT CONTACT LENSES while taking this medicine as permanent staining of the lenses may occur. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for future urinary tract problems without first checking with your doctor. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING THIS MEDICINE IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Possible side effects
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medicine include headache, mild itching, or stomach cramps or upset. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience loss of appetite, unusual fatigue, or weight loss. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience blue or purple skin color, decreased urination, vomiting, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. An allergic reaction to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your healthcare provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

If you take too much
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include bluish-coloring of the skin; vomiting; yellowing of the skin or eyes.
