Chemical Name: LIDOCAINE (LYE-doe-kane) and HYDROCORTISONE (hye-droe-KOR-ti-sone) ACETATE
This medicine is a topical anesthetic and anti-inflammatory combination used to treat inflammation, itching, and discomfort associated with rectal conditions such as hemorrhoids. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE may be needed if you are taking certain antiarrhythmic medicines (e.g., procainamide, mexiletine, propafenone). Check with your pharmacist if you are unsure if you are taking one of these medicines. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, liver problems, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED to treat certain skin infections (e.g., tuberculosis, fungus, chicken pox, herpes simplex, skin infection resulting from a small pox vaccination), or if you have a history of allergy to certain types of topical anesthetics. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Apply a small amount of this medicine to the affected area. WASH YOUR HANDS after using this medicine, unless your hands are part of treated area. If the affected area does not improve, your doctor may have you cover the affected area with gauze or a bandage after applying this medicine. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C), away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE and you are using it regularly, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.
DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it, to other similar local anesthetics (such as dibucaine), or if you are allergic to any ingredient in this product. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or use this medicine for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor. If you use topical products too often, your condition may become worse. If your symptoms do not improve or if they become worse, check with your doctor. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using this medicine. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE A NUMBING EFFECT at the application site. Do not scratch, rub, or expose the area to extreme hot or cold temperature until the numbness is gone. DO NOT GET THIS MEDICINE in your eyes, mouth, nose, or ears. If you get this medicine in your eyes, rinse right away with water and protect the eye surface until sensation is restored. IF YOU DEVELOP AN INFECTION in the affected area, discontinue using this medicine and check with your doctor for appropriate treatment for the infection. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. This includes other medicine that contains a corticosteroid. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other conditions at a later time. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING THIS MEDICINE IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while using this medicine include redness or swelling, temporary stinging or burning, and temporary discoloration or lightening of the skin at the application site. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience continued or worsening irritation or signs of skin infection (such as redness, swelling, pus, or discharge). AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
