Chemical Name: KETAMINE (KEET-a-meen)
This medicine is a general anesthetic used to induce sleepiness before surgery or certain tests or procedures. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking amiodarone. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.
This medicine is usually administered as an injection at your doctor's office, hospital, or a clinic. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine. STORE THIS MEDICINE as directed on the prescription label.
THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE DROWSINESS for up to 24 hours. Do not drive, operate machinery or do anything else that could be dangerous for at least 24 hours following surgery. DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL for 24 hours after using this medicine. This medicine may cause hallucinations or unpleasant dreams that will go away within 24 hours.
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, watery eyes, blurred vision, nightmares, confusion, or change in mood or emotions. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience muscle tightness; unusual motions of your mouth or tongue; talking difficulty; breathing or swallowing difficulties; pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site; skin rash; hives; or itching. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. KEEP THIS PRODUCT, as well as syringes and needles, out of the reach of children. Do not reuse needles, syringes, or other materials. Dispose of properly after use. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist to explain local regulations for selecting an appropriate container and properly disposing of the container when it is full.
