Chemical Name: MAGNESIUM OXIDE (mag-NEE-zhum OX-ide)
This medicine is an antacid used to treat acid indigestion, heartburn, sour stomach, and low magnesium levels in the body. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking penicillamine. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a history of kidney conditions. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.
Use this medicine exactly as directed on the package, unless instructed differently by your doctor. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE and you are using it regularly, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE without checking with your doctor. TAKING THIS MEDICINE MAY AFFECT the action of other medicines. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other medicines and are not sure when you should take this medicine. IF YOU ARE TAKING THIS MEDICINE FOR RELIEF OF ACID INDIGESTION, HEARTBURN, OR SOUR STOMACH and your symptoms do not improve within 2 weeks, if they become worse, or if you experience black, tarry stools or vomit "coffee grounds", check with your doctor. IF YOUR DOCTOR PRESCRIBED THIS MEDICINE FOR YOU, it is important that you keep all doctor and laboratory appointments while you are taking this medicine. IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. If you are or may be pregnant, check with your doctor for instructions on using this medicine during pregnancy.
A SIDE EFFECT, that may go away during treatment, is diarrhea. If it continues or is bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience nausea, vomiting, or slow reflexes. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children and pets. IF USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
