I ordered this because my mom and sisters are all obsessed with philosophy stuff, so I was excited to see a product for men. I really wanted to like this product, but I just don't think it is all that great. There is no lather or foam, and I find that my shave is not very smooth. It basically feels like I am shaving with something slightly more lubricating than water. I even shave in the shower and the result is no better. The smell of the product is horrid. It smells like a medicine cabinet, (think Vaporub or Bengay). I was expecting a much better fragrance from philosophy. Men want a nice-smelling product too. This smell is not even masculine, just medicine-like. And the numbing thing is just weird. I really don't want my shave to be numb so that I can't feel when I am cutting myself! I much prefer Neutrogena shave gel.

Comments about philosophy the common man, extra-comfort shaving cream, 3.3 oz:

Thick, hard to squeeze out, texture is weird and won't smooth out on face. Tube broke the first time my husband tried to use it. Threw it away. I usually love Philosophy, but this was a huge disappointment.

Yes, it lists parabens in the ingredients, but I assumed that a high-end prduct like this would be paraben-free. Given the company's "philosophy," I never thought to check. Just assumed that they would avoid parabens and other harmful ingredients. It's going back to drugstore.com.

I bought this for my husband's Christmas stocking and he was skeptical and only used it a year later when his regular shaving products ran out. It turns out he loves the product and asked me to order more!

This product is for men who hate to shave becasue of the irration, lumps and bumps from blade shaving. This produict truley works.

I agree. It does need to lather or foam. I usually use it underneath my normal shaving cream (Gillette or Barbasol). This works best for me. I think I really just like the anesthetic.
