I was relieved to find that this OTC version of Prevacid worked the first day. I'm glad this lower dose form was effective. It relieved the gnawing stomach pain, nausea, and the acid burning up into my throat. After a week or so, I could talk or read out loud without getting hoarse and sing without hurting my vocal chords. I could finally eat and drink anything I wanted without suffering, and I could lay down without choking. Before taking Prevacid, I would have a horrible night cough due to all the throat irritation from the acid and it would make me vomit. My stomach would churn up acid whether empty or full, it didn't matter, and my throat was almost always sore.
The side effect I experienced mainly was a digestive change. I got gassy much more easily while taking this medicine. However, I rather deal with a gas bubbles cramp than acid reflux.
Before Prevacid I was using TUMS or a regular calcium supplement tablet and Famotidine 20mg twice a day, which decreased but never eliminated my acid reflux symptoms. If you have bad acid reflux and calcium and/or H2 blockers aren't enough, Prevacid might be worth trying. It's the first PPI I've ever tried, but it worked for me.

2-15 mg OTC Prevacid does not = 30 mg
Very disappointed with the product. 2-15 mg OTC Prevacid is not equal in effectiveness to the 30mg brand name Prevacid time-release capsule.

I have used this for years, even before it was available over the counter. My digestive system acts up badly if I go without taking it for over 2 days so I try never to be without it!
Comments about Prevacid24HR Acid Reducer, Delayed-Release Capsules, 42 ea:
Many years ago my ENT doctor prescribed Prevacid for my esophageal reflux and it worked well to control my symptoms of sore throat and metallic taste in my mouth. After awhile my insurance company did not want to pay the higher price for the name-brand drug and encouraged me to try Protonix, which I did. A couple of years later, insurance no longer wanted to pay for the prescription brand, so encouraged me to use the over the counter, Prilosec, which I did. Fortunately, about the time symptoms began to return, Prevacid was made OTC. I have been using it ever since with no return of symptoms.

This is the best medication for Acid Reflux or at least that I have tried. I was so glad when it was sold over the counter.I take one every night along with sensible eating habits to control my Acid Reflux.
Comments about Prevacid24HR Acid Reducer, Delayed-Release Capsules, 42 ea:
Being on 2 blood thinners daily (cilostazol for PAD plus aspirin), we manage by taking the cilostazol with other meds EARLY in the morning and taking the Prevacid an hour or more after that. Our pharmacist explained that the cilostazol needs acids to do its job, while the Prevacid will reduce or eliminate acids. Both should be taken on an empty stomach... so we have a late breakfast. Doctors should be more informed of the recommendations against use of adid reducers together with blood thinners.

I used this daily as my new insurance won't cover it as it used to - it works like a charm. Never suffer from heartburn anymore. Great product - highly recommended!

Acid reflux can be a horrible thing. Started with this years ago. It, like all gerd products takes a full day to two to work. When it was a prescription med, I took 30 mg in morning. Now I take 30 in morning and nite. While I am on, nothing bothers me. The generic brand didn't work for me for some reason. U must experiment with all these class drugs to see what works for u. Drugstore.com has the best prices by far over local pharmacies and free shipping. Same goes for all personal care products. This product is not for heartburn, take alka seltzer or pepto for that, this is for gut wrenching gerd.
