When Prilosec first went OTC, it meant I was actually paying *more* for the medication than with insurance, so naturally I tended to go for the generic when available. Unfortunately, neither the brand-name nor the generic was in user-friendly packaging - it was impossible to get the pills out of the blister-pack without either gouging my fingers, or resorting to scissors. The third evening within half an hour of taking it or less I began having a severe reaction to it. There wasn't a place on my body from my toes to the top of my head that did not itch severly and feel in pain it was so bad. Of course it was a time release 24 hour tablet and it took about 30 hours for the effects to finally wear off. Just thought I should warn it's possible some people can't take this. I really wanted to as I was so pleased it seemed to be working the first 2 days. This is only the second time I've ever had this particular reaction to a drug and first for an over the counter one. Comments about Prilosec OTC Acid Reducer, 20.6mg, Tablets, 42 ea: Great product. My doctor prescribed another product that my insurance did not cover and cost approx $100 for a 30 day supply. The clerk suggested Prilosec, at a quarter of the price. That was about 4 years ago and I have not had a bout of acid reflux since. Great product! Pros

Comments about Prilosec OTC Acid Reducer, 20.6mg, Tablets, 42 ea: I used to be on Prescription Protonix but went off because it did not work as well as I wanted. I then found Pepcid AC worked memarkably well but I had to take it after each meal and upon rising. When I was in the hospital my dr prescribed Prilosec. When I got out I decided to try Prilosec OTC. What an amazing product! It works every day. Once in a great while I need a Pepcid AC but it's like night and day from what was before. Pros

Comments about Prilosec OTC Acid Reducer, 20.6mg, Tablets, 42 ea: This works as well as Nexium for me, and is much cheaper. I have been using it for years for heartburn caused by hiatal hernia. Can't lfunction without it. Comments about Prilosec OTC Acid Reducer, 20.6mg, Tablets, 42 ea: I hate taking meds, so I take half the dose whenever I can get away with it. Though this is a timed-release tablet, I find that using a pill cutter from the pharmacy (three dollars or so) I can take half the dose of Prilosec and still eliminate acid reflux altogether. Pros
