I've got GERD (Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease) and as such, if I don't take an acid reducer, I'm in a world of hurt. When Prilosec first went OTC, it meant I was actually paying *more* for the medication than with insurance, so naturally I tended to go for the generic when available. Unfortunately, neither the brand-name nor the generic was in user-friendly packaging - it was impossible to get the pills out of the blister-pack without either gouging my fingers, or resorting to scissors.

Well, Prilosec's manufacturer's finally improved the packaging so that no weapons were required - and I'm back to buying the brand name. The extra cost for brand-name vs. generic is worth it (about 5.00 a package).

Don't get me wrong, the packaging still stinks. Why on earth do a blister-pack when a bottle would be so much easier? And even the improved blister-pack requires a fair bit of manual dexterity and strengh to use - you have to push the pill through a very thick layer of paper to get it out.

I took this product and all went well the first two days. This was the first time I'd tried it. The third evening within half an hour of taking it or less I began having a severe reaction to it. There wasn't a place on my body from my toes to the top of my head that did not itch severly and feel in pain it was so bad. Of course it was a time release 24 hour tablet and it took about 30 hours for the effects to finally wear off. Just thought I should warn it's possible some people can't take this. I really wanted to as I was so pleased it seemed to be working the first 2 days. This is only the second time I've ever had this particular reaction to a drug and first for an over the counter one.

I would give this 5 stars, because it is a very effective medication. But the packaging is ridiculous to open. I have to take them all the time. I buy 3 of these 42 count at a time, and then sit for nearly half an hour extracting each pill and putting it in a bottle for sane daily use. I have written to them several times complaining about the stupid blister packing that I have to use a scissors with. They have never answered me. All of us who have to use this regularly have to send them letters or flood their voice mailbox.

This is an excellent treatment for acid reflux. Unfortunately, when I took Prilosec and then finished the 14 tablets, my acid reflux flared up like crazy. So if you plan on trying Prilosec I suggest you first seek a doctor's opinion to see if the drug is strong enough for you.

I use this daily along with nexium, recommended by my gut doctor. I used to buy at Costco, but drugstore has a better price so I always order through drugstore.com. And then of course I order a little something else wonderful for me like philosophy bath products to get the free shipping. I Iove drugstore.com!

I got bumped to another prescription plan, and they won't cover my generic omeprazole time released capsules. So, time for OTC Prilosec it seems. I probably won't like the packaging, since I'm used to bottles, so I guess I'm writing my frustration in advance. Prilosec just happens to be the best thing ever for reflux. Can't beat it.

Excellent product, almost identical effect to Nexium. The packaging I agree is a nightmare. Would be better in a bottle, but since the manufacturer sells three courses of treatment it might not be feasible. In that case, an easier package to open is urgently required.

Best product I have found for reflux relief. I have not had one episode of heartburn since I started taking this product. I don't really know why people are complaining about the packaging; just peel the paper backing off like it says to do and the pill pops right out of the blister pak with little to no effort.

Out of the blue I got a severe case of heartburn and acid indigestion. It was going on two weeks when I tried Prilosec. Just after taking 1 pill I noticed a difference. The packaging is a nightmare however, and they would be better off putting it in a bottle.

It is a marvelous product; but I agree that the packaging is horrible. I'm glad that my life doesn't depend on taking it immediately. I'd be dead before I got the package open.Thank God for scissors!

This drug does the trick. I take it once a day and keeps heartburn in check. I must agree with everyone else however, the packaging is a nightmare. What's up with it? Are manufacturers afraid we'll overdose? My husband and I have resorted to just taking scissors and cutting an opening in each pill pod in advance so we can take the pill each day without a struggle. The packaging is wasteful, too much cardboard and plastic!
