AlteraGel is recommended by veterinarians to prevent or slow chronic renal failure in dogs which is linked to high serum phosphate levels. It binds the phosphates so they don't damage the kidneys

If you have a stomach condition in which regular antacid formulations (such as Maalox) cause diarrhea, this antacid is an excellent alternative, as it does not contain the magnesium of other brands. Following my wife's gall bladder surgery, she had problems with acid reflux / heartburn, but could not take regular antacid. This has worked very well for her. One caveat: for longterm regular use the amount of aluminum in the product might be a concern. Use as directed. But other than that, a great product. I don't think there is anything on the market that is an exact equivalent of this type of antacid.

We used this product for our dog, who was suffering from kidney disease. It helps to remove toxins from their blood. It has a mildly minty taste, which dogs aren't too wild about. In small doses it could probably be mixed with food, but we had to pour it down her throat several times a day. It really helped her, though.
