Make sure pencil is sharp if you want a line that's thin, a bit less if more pop to the eye wanted - thicker line. Take a lighter and hold it under tip of pencil for a second or two, twisting it, until it looks like a thick gel. Blow on it to cool off, apply quickly, and you will have very long lasting eyeliner that is thin or thick line if you want. Do not use on brows in this way. The pencils go quickly, but they are so cheap, and you get such great lines with them, it is worth it to buy a bunch.

I have used this product in light brown, blonde, and auburn forever -- until the past year or so. There is no auburn -- what happened?

I've been using these Maybelline eye pencils since I started high school many
many years ago and I still use them as eyeliner. They're the only ones that do not irritate my eyes or cause allergic reaction. Hope that Maybelline continues to make them forever.

I like this product. I tried the eyeliner with the base that winds up the pencil and I think I am allergic to it - my eyes turned red and watery. I have no probelms with this type of pencil however.

I have used the Maybelline pencils since my sophomore year in high school.
And, that was many years ago. They are the best I have ever used (and I've tried all the high end stuff also) but the Maybelline is high quality and I have never had an allergic reaction to it.

Eyebrow fill in. Hard to sharpen as the crayon middle can BREAK in the sharpener so be careful to sharpen slowly and without pressure.

Should've paid more attention to Mom!. This is the only eyebrow pencil she ever used & now (finally) it's the only one I'll use. After 30+ years of spending too much money for the 'elite' eyebrow pencils sold under the expensive brand names, I'm now using exactly what Mom used 50 years ago & it's the best out there! The size of the pencil is great! You have so much more control and precision. The formula is far better than most - not too hard & not too soft. I actually use both the black & the brown and blend for a more natural look. I have (almost) black hair with gold reddish highlights. So the black seems too harsh, but the brown seems too light. Blending the two works perfect for me. And you can not beat the price. If you've never tried Maybelline's Brow Pencils, you should!

Been using these for 20 years or more, since early high school. Tried different eyeliners and eyebrow pencils/compacts through the years but always come back to these cheap little things. As eyeliner, they don't end up under my eyes, the black isn't too dark and harsh, and can be applied as a clean line or a natural smudgey line. It does wear off but I don't know where it goes -- it's not under my eyes and that's what matters. As eyebrown pencil, it's easy to brush in, and same as using as liner -- even if it disappears, it doesn't end up somewhere on my face that looks stupid. If you've heavily moisturized into your eyebrows, though, it can go on too heavy and then end up difficult to brush evenly.

Maybelline is a brand I trust. My mother used Maybelline pencils to fill in her brows and as a eyeliner. Now I use them too, I wouldn't use any other brand!
