This is a VERY effective antihistamine, but be warned: it can make you EXTREMELY drowsy! I have terrible allergies and find that most antihistamines dry me out but don't do much else, but this stops my sneezing in its tracks. Oddly, for me it doesn't kick in until after 2 hours after I take it so I take 2 tablets a couple of hours before I want to go to bed and I get 9 hours of sleep uninterrupted by allergy symptoms. Plus, it lingers in my system for a few hours after I get up so I get allergy relief for the better part of the morning.

I take 2 caplets before going to bed and sleep very well. Could I get a good night's sleep without it? I don;t know, and am not willing to take the chance. The biggest side effect, for me, is dry mouth.

Benadryl is a product everyone should keep in the medicine cabinet. It's indispensable for allergy season (I take one every evening, all year long, as I live where there is always *something* stuffing me up!) It's also great as an emergency treatment: if I'm gardening and something bites me, or makes me break out in hives, one Benadryl clears it up, and quickly too. My vet even told me to give it to my dog when she gets wheezy and stuffed up - it's a wonder drug :)
