It is only for tissue edema that accompanies a certain type of medical condition. Do not use this without a doctor's advice about dosage. Just because something is sold over the counter, does not mean you should use it without caution. Seems to help a lot with managing RCE (recurrent corneal erosion) and with drawing off excess fluid due to a corneal dystrophy. But I think one should get a recommendation for such a product from his/her eye doctor, as it does contain sodium and reduces eye fluid--it's not simply an eye lubricant.

I have an eye condition which requires me to use the ointment as a 6 month treatment (long time i know) along with the drops. I use the ointment only right before going to bed. I apply it by gently pulling my lower lid down a bit and squeeze in a few drops. It's almost like applying eyeliner, but a little more invasive. It's a soothing feeling especially when you're ready to sleep. Anyone who's used this knows that it creates this greasy type coating over your eye and you can't see clearly. It's like looking through a dirty window. That's why using at night would be more ideal. Good luck!

If you have dry eyes, this is a great alternative to Refresh, it keeps eyes feeling rested and moist; use at bed time.
