The pressure from an airplane landing used to cause me unbelievable pain. I have had surgeries on both ears and I don't think that this helped the problem. However my husband also suffered deep pain from the pressure changes of the plane landing and he too uses EarPlanes. The most important thing to do is to READ the instructions for use. This must be stated because most people I have recommended them to have not read the instructions. So read the instructions and be prepared for no pain whatsoever from the pressure changes nor the stuffiness that can occur. EarPlanes are a wonderful device.

I have horrible problems with my ears. Having just had tubes put in back in January, I'm very conscientious about taking proper care of my ears. I used these earplugs for driving through the mountains, and they worked pretty well. I still felt a slight popping in my ears as we increased in altitude, but it was much better than what I usually feel without earplugs. I also used these when I took a shower, because I'm not supposed to get water in my ears. They worked well for this purpose, too. However, these can only be used once or twice, according to the package, and they're more expensive than others that work just as well. I'll probably stick with the less expensive earplugs in the future.

Ever since I was young, I dreaded air travel as I had to deal with such horrible pain afterward. I had the kind of pain that would literally last for days !! I've been using these now for at least around 10yrs or so and I haven't had to deal with any kind of pain, nor any sort of discomfort. They're my lifesavers !!

Since I was young i've suffered from extremely bad earaches during flight travel. Nothing I tried subsided the pain. I would literally have ear pain days after my flight. I started using these a lil over 10 years ago and has never looked back ! Simple, and easy to use ! Whenever I travel on a plane I always have these with me.

I was surprised to see other uses than plane travel suggested by drugstore.com for these EarPlanes. They are called that for a reason and would be very uncomfortable to sleep in and don't block noise well. Now, as to how they work for their intended purpose, the answer is "pretty well". I use them every time I fly (a few times a year) and they pretty much guarantee no annoying "ear popping". I say pretty much because I have (rarely) still experienced some, though it's more mild than it would be w/o them. They are not easy to insert correctly (though with practice it gets easier), not that difficult, but to get maximize effectiveness you have to fuss around with them. Also, they are not very comfortable. Tolerable, and certainly better than ear pain, but not comfortable. I guess because the plastic has to be hard that's unavoidable.

EarPlanes are one of the best things ever invented. I flew twice a week for my job. If I had a hint of a cold or congestion I would be in pain, and often in tears, as the plane descended. Sometimes, my ears would not clear until hours after the flight. EarPlanes eliminated that pain and discomfort. One silly complaint: they won't work with iPod earbuds. I did eventually find earphones that work with the earPlanes.

Had effusion in my middle ear for a week before my trip. Spoke with two doctors who gave me opposing advice but neither mentioned earplanes: One said take sudafed until your trip, the second doctor said not to take sudafed and just use afrin and a nasal steroid. I did some combination of both. And I bought a pair of earplanes after reading these reviews.
The day of my flight, I took two sudafed, two advils, a benedryl, used afrin, and then used EARPLANES. I was completely pain free, even though I have bilateral effusion.
Amazing! I recommend it to anyone with ear issues that but still needs to fly.

These little earplugs make flying much more comfortable. I always had bad earaches from descending on a flight....then couldn't hear for a couple of hours afterwards. Now I can fly without worrying about the pain (especially if I'm congested, getting over a cold, or allergy season!) I recommend them to everyone I know who travels. They fit right in your purse or pocket.

These are THE BEST!! I ...

These are THE BEST!! I had never flown before, and I was getting over a horrible cold. Nobody told me about the consequences of flying with a cold. Taking off wasn't too bad, there was a little pressure in my ears, but nothing too horrible. When we started landing, it felt like my head was going to explode! Once we finally landed, I called my boyfriend, and after doing a little internet research, he told me to see if I could find "EarPlanes"... I ran to the nearest gift shop and bought them, and used them on my connecting flight and my flight home. I will never fly without EarPlanes! They are seriously a life saver!!

I will never go without ...

Comments about EarPlanes Earplugs, Flight Ear Protection, 1 pr:
I will never go without earplanes on a flight again. I always have had problems on my flights and after my eardrums blowing out on last flight I was afraid to fly. I had terrible pain and was deaf for almost a week. I had no air pressure pain at all, only a little popping by wearing earplanes. My only complaint was that it was uncomfortable in one ear but I will still continue to use. They are a miracle!!
Before inserting, pinch nose and blow to clear your ears. For best results, always insert EarPlanes one hour before landing. Remove after landing and when the cabin door is opened.
Chronic sufferers may also insert EarPlanes just before takeoff. EarPlanes may be removed when the airplane reaches maximum altitude and reinserted one hour before landing.
For maximum results, use your opposite hand to pull the top of your ear upward. Insert the ribbed end and turn like a corkscrew until snug.
Recommendation: Do not reuse after two flights since pollen, dust, and moisture will reduce effectiveness.
EarPlanes Earplugs, Flight Ear Protection
– The ear discomfort, clogging and popping that can occur while flying may be alleviated with EarPlanes Earplugs, Flight Ear Protection. Easy to use, latex-free, hypoallergenic and drug-free, these comfortable earplugs use an advanced design to help regulate the air pressure differential in the ear canals and inner ears. Developed by Cirrus Healthcare Products in conjunction with the House Ear Institute in Los Angles, a leader in hearing research and ear surgery, these earplugs have been tested by U.S. Navy aviators and are recommended by some doctors. They are often used by air passengers and flight attendants alike and are backed by the Good Housekeeping Seal.
How They Work
In flight, the cabins of commercial airliners are pressurized to provide air and warmth to passengers. Unfortunately, the inner ear does not always adjust to the pressure change rapidly enough, which can cause discomfort. The EarPlanes Earplugs consist of a silicone section with four rings to provide an airtight fit. There is also a CeramX™ element that acts as a controlled porosity filter to help regulate airflow. They also help to suppress noise, especially the high frequencies generated by aircraft engines, while still allowing the wearer to hear announcements and use headphones. EarPlanes may also be useful for drivers in mountainous areas and for roller-coaster riders.
Easy to Use
To allow the inner ears to gradually adjust to changing air pressure, put the EarPlanes into place one hour before landing and keep them in until after exiting the plane. People who are particularly sensitive to pressure changes, or who are suffering with a cold, allergy symptoms or a sinus condition may want to put the earplugs in before boarding the plane, leaving them in until after the aircraft has reached its maximum cruising altitude. A pair of EarPlanes should not be used for more than two flights, since pollen, airborne bacteria and dust may clog the ceramic filter and reduce their effectiveness.
