I started taking my temps last month but was not TTC yet - my luteal phase was 13 days. So, this month was our first month trying, and I took this test at 8 days post ovulation (so 6 days before my expected period) and it was negative. No big shocker, the test isn't supposed to be sensitive then (I actually had initially misjudged my ovulation and didn't really intend to take a test that early, but oh well.) Anyway, more time passed and I could CLEARLY tell when I had ovulated given more temp info. I waited until 16 days post ovulation and still no period. So I retook the test and got a positive before I could even wash my hands after going to the bathroom! It was very easy to read and immediate. Also, just FYI, I took it during the day but waited 7 hours without going to the bathroom. I also caught it in a cup instead of holding it in the stream to make sure I followed the directions exactly.

I was able to see a faint positive before my missed period. I really like the large, oval window. It makes it much easier to compare the control line to the test line. If you're testing a day or more before your missed period, be sure to use first morning urine and wait 10 minutes instead of the recommended three minutes. It gives the dye more time to pick up on the small amount of hormones. Overall, great product! I will definitely use these again.

Here's what is going on with my First Response experience: The first FR tests I purchased were a 3 pack of early detection tests (one line not preg, two lines preg). I am really impatient, so I started testing on day 22 of my cycle. Took one day 22, one day 23, one day 24, all neg. Got more tests, this time First Response GOLD (digital). Day 25 - YES+!!! WOW! I was so excited! Had one left in the box, took it just for kicks the next morning...-NO. Okay, I'm thinking, maybe I've experienced a chemical pregnancy. Bummed out. To be sure, I get even more tests. Figured I didn't trust the digital, so got more FR early detection (with the lines). Got a faint positive an hour after I got the digital negative. Took another one a few hours later, it was a stronger positive. Took yet another this morning, a faint positive, about the same as yesterday. What is up with this? Doctor does not want to see me for 2 1/2 more weeks. While I can understand getting a positive followed by a negative (likely due to chemical pregnancy) - I cannot understand getting yes, no, yes results. That is a way to play with a poor woman's mind. Not to mention that I'm worried the lines are not getting progressively darker. They are light, dark, light. And I'm holding the test in my urine stream, counting to five - taking it out of stream, each time the same. Going to try a new brand, feel like I'm wasting my time and money on this stuff. Doctor's office said if I have 4 positives and one negative, I'm likely pregnant but I don't need this sort of extra worry (last pregnancy ended in miscarriage). Thanks a lot, First Response.

Two days before my period was due, I took this test. I took both tests in the box, and both looked exactly the same- two pink lines, although one line was very faint. This lead to some confusion as to whether a line was really there or not. One day later, I took Clearblue Easy digital, and the result was clear as day- "Pregnant!" So although the First Response test did detect hCG two days before my period was due, the faint lines did lead my husband and I to doubt whether or not it was a positive result. If you take this test and get two lines, one which is faint, I recommend waiting a day or two and taking the Clearblue Easy Digital test to get a more definitive result.

I am so disappointed in this test. I took it when my period was 3 days late because even though I was stressed, I was going on my bachelorette party and didn't want to drink if I was pregnant. Well, the test was negative so I went out & had myself about 5 drinks. Now I'm 2 weeks late, so I went & got myself an EPT with a bonus digital test. I took the regular EPT and within seconds the blue cross showed up. I took the digital one to double check, and it showed up with the word "Pregnant" in less than 2 minutes. Now I have to stress out that I may have harmed my baby, thanks to the unreliability of First Response. I would never trust this test again, especially in a situation like the one I had. When in doubt, do another test by a different manufacturer.

While a lot of women swear by this test, I absolutely think it is a waste of money, effort and emotion. I used a two pack test once, got two very distinct positives, was so excited only to run out to the store and purchase two other brands to be sure. The other brands were negative, and I was indeed NOT pregnant. The next time I used this test was after I had an IUI. I tested and got a negative, yet my doctor had me come in for a beta hCG (blood test testing for the pregnancy hormone) anyway. My level was 47.8, clearly over the amount of hCG this test should have detected. I tested a day or so later when my number had more than doubled (confirmed by my doctor) and still got a negative with this test, while the other HPTs I had were VERY positive. I was pregnant with TWINS, who are now 3. In four words: I LOATHE THIS PRODUCT.

I think this is a fairly good test. The great thing about it is when you are not pregnant; there is not even a hint of a second line, which I appreciate. However, interpreting positive results is a bit more difficult. I took this test and a Clearblue digital test the first day after my missed period - the first response was negative while the digital test was positive (doctor confirmed the pregnancy one week later). It was not until four days after my missed period that the first response test (which is supposed to be more sensitive than the digital tests on the market) had a faint positive line. So, in my opinion, the test is overall accurate, but is more of a hassle than the convenience of digital tests.

This is the best test for testing before your period is due. It's very easy to read and I've never had it give me an inaccurate result. This is the best early result test on the market in my opinion.

Highly recommended. Easy to use, easy to read. I must admit I waited until I missed my period by two weeks before using the test though (just to make sure it was worth opening those expensive tests and I hadn't had an early miscarriage). For me, pink lines were very dark and appeared in less than 5 seconds.
