Not so sure of the gradualness of it. I also used the body Build-A-Tan at the same time and immediately saw a difference, but this face one I am not sure. I guess that is good because it is harder to hide your face then other body parts where there might be streaking. No streaking, no blotches, no rashes. Maybe I am tanner and it is so gradual I cannot tell. My body is tan and my face doesn't look like a white blob so it must be working.

I haven't used self tanners much and was worried about streaks and the "fake" look. But, after a few days of applications, I have had very little color to even show up at all. I don't want to look fake, but I would expect to see a little more color by now. My skin has also developed some type of allergic reaction. I love most of the Neutrogena products, but have had to stop using this one.

I am very, very pale, and decided to try it out. I exfoliated and used a plain lotion first. Then applied this. Literally an hour later- saw a real difference. Worked well, and had much less of a smell then my old self tanner. I had no streakiness, but that's because I used a base layer of plain lotion first.

At first, I loved this product. It gives just a subtle hint of color, and isn't orange. The problem I had is the smell. It doesn't smell bad going on, but hours later, the smell sets in. It seemed to be the smell that only I could smell, and had my family thinking I was going crazy. Even after washing my face, the smell remained. Took me a while to figure out it was this product. Might just be me and my sensitive nose, but be forwarned.

I had a terrible allergic reaction to the chemicals in this product, I am not allergic to anything, but my face developed a red itchy rash around my mouth and the next morning my eyes were puffy. I've always loved Neutrogena products, but beware of the strong chemicals that stay in your face to produce this effect; I'll never use a self tanner again! I give it no stars, but zero is not an option here.

Strange, but I like it. I will continue to use it to see if I actually notice any tan-looking colors. I think the scent is fantastic and must be the best-smelling product out there for sunless anything! I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars because I'm not quite sure the gradual-ness of it all is fast enough. I mean, we expect it to take a couple days (hence the title) but THREE days of application and I can still HARDLY tell? But so far it's not bad.

Ok, I have never used sunless tanners in my life, so this was my first experience and I'm not all impressed. I put it on at night after I had taken a bath and exfoliated myself thoroughly. At first, it seemed like it was working well. I turned a ever so slight shade of brown, thus it lives up to its build-a-tan name. I was happy and went to bed. When I woke up, I had pale orange spots here and there. It wasn't overly awful and my face hadn't changed, thank god (I've always been deathly afraid of my face changing orange and turning spotty), but it still was not pleasant. It does live up to its name of building a tan, but not something I would use or buy again, and not worth the money. Of course, everyone's skin is different and probably would react differently.

I have been using this product off and on for over 6 months now and I really like it. I am now using it once or twice a week just to maintain a nice light glow. I am light/medium completed and find that the amount used along with frequency of use will vary the results. What I like about this product is that it has gotten me out of the tanning beds and I am sure my skin is thankful for that. I use the product after exfoliating and find the scent and consistency nice.
