Pros: Lathers Well
Cons: Smells Bad
Describe Yourself: Minimalist
Best Uses: Itchy scaby scalp
Hair Type: Straight Hair
Bottom Line: recommended
Had been wrestling for some time with itchy scalp with red bumps and sores. Not quite infection, not quite seborrhea. One shampoo with the product was great. After three washes the problem was gone. I use it about every 3rd to 4th time now to keep problem away and not sure it is even needed. Doesn't smell great as it is sulfur based but also didn't strip my hair either.

Pros: Cleans Thoroughly, Lathers Well
Cons: After 2 uses- builds up, Over priced-small bottle, Smells Bad
Describe Yourself: Beauty Conscious
Hair Type: Straight Hair
Bottom Line: recommended
Sebulex smells bad,it builds up after 3 shampoos (get Neutrogena anti residue shampoo to wash out the buildup--the formula is new blue and white box--no parabens--thank you Neutrogena). Sebulex is over priced, but try it as it might work for you.

Pros: Cleans Thoroughly, Lathers Well, Stops itching
Cons: Cost
Describe Yourself: Minimalist
Best Uses: Thicker Hair
Hair Type: Wavy Hair
Bottom Line: recommended
The sulfur ingredient helped to stop my scalp from itching. I used to use Selsun in the yellow bottle for that function, but I could not find it anymore so Sebulex is a great replacement.

My dermatologist recommended Sebulex to me +15 years ago for a scalp infection. I use it periodically when the infection returns. 3-5 days completely clears up the problem. It is wonderful but difficult to find in brick-and-mortar drugstores. Thank Heaven for Drugstore.com!

by Beautymaster[Verified Buyer] in Newark,DE on 6/9/09
Pros: Cleans Thoroughly, Gentle, Improves Hair Health, Lathers Well
Cons: Dries Hair Out, Smells Bad
Describe Yourself: Professional Stylist
Hair Type: Straight Hair
Bottom Line: recommended
I am a professional stylist of 10 years. I work mainly with relaxed ethic hair. I was having trouble finding a dandruff shampoo to aid in healing seborrheic dermatitis, and sebulex is it! Of course there's no cure but it significantly reduced flaking and itching up to almost 1 week longer then any over-the-counter shampoo. Anyone who has this condition knows that an entire week of no flakes is just....well...great! It doesn't smell that great and will dry out the hair, but use a conditioning shampoo n deep conditioner after the sebulex, and that will give you the desired softness and shine. This product is perfect for any ethnic man or woman. I will keep it in my salon!

Cons: Not for daily use
Describe Yourself: Minimalist
Best Uses: Dry Scalp, Gets rid of dandruff, Itchy Scalp, Oily Hair
Hair Type: Wavy Hair

I use to buy this at my local grocery store but they stopped carrying it about 5 years ago. I was never again able to find it until I did a web search. I'm so glad I found it again. I have tried all the other OTC dandruff shampoos and none work as well as this does!! I love it. I use it 2 to 3 times a week and it really keeps my dandruff at bay and has gotten rid of my itchy dry scalp.

Best Uses: Daily Use, Oily Hair

Sebulex does the best job of anything I know of, at controlling scalp itch and dandruff. You are the only place I can find it now. It is better than Selsun blue.
Sebulex Medicated Dandruff Shampoo rates 5 out of 5 stars, from 48 customer reviews.Right for African-American Hair
by HappyNaturalHair[Verified Reviewer] in New Jersey on 5/3/09
Pros: Cleans Thoroughly, Improves Hair Health
Describe Yourself: Minimalist
Best Uses: Curly Hair, Thicker Hair
Hair Type: Very Curly Hair
Bottom Line: recommended
I've used many dandruff, scalp products. As an African-American woman who wears my hair naturally--braided or twisted, I often had dryer, "slight scabbing" hair in the front. Moisturizers covered the problem, but this really seemed to lift the dead, dull scalp and after a while became less an less needed. I often use a shower cap, and pull back far enough so that I am able to wash the front of my hair each time I shower, and I really love the health of my new hair line. Turns out the ingredients are a lot more "natural" than I suspected: compare to the Natural brands out there...use your regular shampoo/condition after treatment...and you're FINE!
