Perhaps people who give this product low ratings don't know how to use it properly, or expect heavy-duty curls like a regular curling iron. Both do specific jobs--I use hot curling brushes to add body or make hair go in the direction it's supposed to (particularly bangs). It is essential for people with short, layered hair. I find it indispensable and often use it concurrently with a regular hot curling iron. It can either give you soft, flattering curls or make wavy hair more smooth and uniform.

I live part of the year in the U.S. and the rest of the time I live in Asia. I bought one last year to take to Asia because of the dual voltage. I use it all the time there. I'm in the U.S. for a few months and I miss the curling brush. Today I'm purchasing one to keep in the U.S. I have very fine hair. This hot brush doesn't curl as well as a curling iron, but I kept dropping my curling iron on my face and arms. I decided I had to buy something something else before I scarred my face or arms with severe burns. This brush gets hot so one still has to be careful when adjusting the hair on the brush. But when I drop it, I do not get burned. That's why it's five stars.
