I first learned about interdental brushes when my dentist provided a sample. For years, I have used these brushes every day. They clean the larger opening at the base between the teeth and the gums. They are not intended to replace floss for cleaning the narrow spaces between the teeth. My dental hygienist marvels at how little plaque buildup I have between cleanings.

I use interdental brushes daily, and these are my favorite. They are small enough to actually fit in between the large spaces, and stiff enough to work well where they don't fit in between. For those who don't understand the interdental brush, they are not supposed to fit BETWEEN all the teeth. Don't force them - just use them as far as they go.

I've tried several brands and several designs, and these are the best of the lot as far as being small enough to get between your teeth, yet still stiff enough to be useful. They prevent build-up of plaque between your teeth, which presumably cuts down on cavities, but definitely cuts down on the amount of hacking, scraping, and chipping away that your dental hygeinist has to do when you go in for a cleaning. Taking 15 minutes off of that job is well worth the price!
