So it can reach all the way through to your scalp to get all the hair detangled, and doesn't scratch your scalp when you brush. I find it takes a lot fewer strokes with this brush to get my hair detangled than with other brushes. My only issue with it is the same that others have reported - the handle breaks off. Daughter's finally gave out too. After a long search for replacement, found on drugstore.com! I was so excited, I ordered three - one for me, my daughter and one extra in case it's discontinued. My daughters run away from any other brush. I love that it has a combination of bristles to detangle and then brush the hair more finely. Not sure about the shine, but it does straighten out and smooth my hair. And the brush looks good even!
