Dramamine Motion Sickness Relief, Original Formula, Tablets rates 5 out of 5 stars, from 21 customer reviews.Great for nausea
by molly[Verified Buyer] in Philly, PA on 9/3/09
Pros: Is an antihistimine, Let's you sleep, Stops nausea
Cons: Lasts only 6 hours, Some dry mouth
Describe Yourself: Active zoo volunteer, Elderly
Best Uses: Daily Use, Emergencies, Great anti-allergy, Great for flu, Quick Fix, Traveling
Bottom Line: recommended
Though specified as a sea sickness remedy, it works for other nausea as well. It's in the drug class of antihistamines so can cause some sleepiness until you get use to it, and a little dry mouth, but it doesn't have the 'downer' effect of most antihistamines. It's actually a mild mood elevator so if you have the flu, it actually makes you feel better. I wish there was an 8 or 12 hour version, but 6 hours is pretty good. The chewable one doesn't taste very good and the regular pill is small and easy to take, so I use that one. During allergy season, I take it daily for sneezing, etc. and it works as well as any allergy medication. Otherwise, I use it for nausea or for back pain. It does have some muscle relaxing qualities.
Dramamine Motion Sickness Relief, Original Formula, Tablets rates 5 out of 5 stars, from 21 customer reviews.Hate to Fly
by Not a Wright Brothers Descendant[Verified Buyer] in San Diego, CA on 8/6/09
Cons: Causes Side Effects, Drowsy after awakening, Dry mouth
Describe Yourself: Healthy
Best Uses: Traveling
Bottom Line: recommended
I'm not a great flyer, so I use Dramamine to help me sleep through a flight. I take two about a half hour before a flight and by the time I buckle my seatbelt, I'm just about nodding off. Next thing I know, I hear the announcement that we're preparing to land! I also get airsick, so it prevents any upset stomach with a rocky flight (and since I'm usually asleep, I don't know about that either!). But, it does make me drowsy for a while after landing, so I usually don't drive a car right away.

I take this with my breakfast or any other meal the morning after drinking, and it takes the hang over feeling away. It cures the upset stomach and the headaches. I also love it for car rides and amusment park rides! I just wanted to let you know there are so many other uses for this drug other than just for a car ride. DO NOT TAKE BEFORE OR DURING DRINKING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES!!!

I take 1/2 tablet 30-60 minutes before getting into a car. That prevents motion sickness but doesn't really make me drowsy. It has been a life-saver, too, for my granddaughter who is now 6 years old. Wish I had known about it when her mother was young.

I get extremely carsick (though never get sick on boats, planes, etc) so I tried this...once. The instructions said to take 1-2 tablets, and since I was still carsick from the previous day and had a loooong car ride ahead of me, I took 2. Again, that's the proper dosage. Within 40 minutes I got extremely droswy, and I mean this was the most tired I have ever been. I was so tired that it hurt. And I was slurring my words, I wasn't at all coherant and I kept falling over. I had blurry vision and the worst dry mouth. When I got home an hour later, I ended up losing consciousness a few times. I had to drink a lot of caffeine just to feel human and once it wore off 5 hours later, I was still loopy and out of it. I've taken sleeping pills and prescription pain meds and things for various things (I get severe migraines) and none of them affected me this way. It felt like I had overdosed on something very very strong. Keep in mind, while I'm not a huge girl, I'm not small either. I'm 5'10'' 150lbs. Taking the recommended dosage shouldn't have affected me so strongly. Plus, they don't put anything on the bottle about drowsiness at all. And they don't tell you that you shouldn't drive after taking it, and trust me, you shouldn't. For someone like me who had never taken it, how was I to know that it would make me any bit drowsy, let alone knock me off my feet like this? It's very irresponsible of them not to have any such warnings on the packaging. It does cure the motion sickness, but it ends up making you feel so much worse. Some people have said that they take it everyday, and I cannot imagine that. Mine is going in the trash. I'd rather feel carsick than lose consciousness and be incoherant for an entire day.

I've used Dramamine for years and I find the chewables have the least side effects. The less drowsy formula made me sleep for hours after my flight and through the night.

I take 25 mg on a daily basis.[$] for 12 tablets is definitely not cost effective.I had to look online to find a 100 tab 25 mg online (geriatric care) and that does work for me.I have a lot of allergies and chronic middle ear problems (nausea, motion sickness) so I need to take it almost every day of the year, 1 tab (25mg) per day.
Dramamine Motion Sickness Relief, Original Formula, Tablets rates 1 out of 5 stars, from 21 customer reviews. The way this possibly ...
by Anonymous[Verified Reviewer] in Undisclosed on 6/18/08
The way this possibly works is that it makes you feel SO bad that you forget all about your motion sickness. My experience with this product was very - VERY - bad. I felt fine for about five hours after taking one pill. However, at about hour five, I felt such sudden drowsiness that I can't explain. I felt like I had to lie down or I would die. It was MISERABLE. I slept for many hours, into the night, through the night and awoke the next day feeling like I'd not slept at all. A full 24 hours after taking only ONE PILL, I still feel like I've been rundown by a steamroller. Miserable feeling. In addition to feeling tired from this medicine, my heart rate slowed considerably and my joints hurt. I am sensitive to medications but this reaction was extreme. Not for me. Take with caution and don't believe the label that says "Less Drowsy".
