by Fye[Verified Reviewer] in Bellingham,WA on 6/1/09
Pros: Effective Protection
Bottom Line: recommended
I bought this sunscreen for my children but amazingly, it worked well for me too. My sons and I got really burned and black eventhough we were out in the sun only 20 minutes. However, after applied this sunscreen, we didn't get burn and less black. Now our family can go out and have fun in the sun with no worries.

I love this product. I'm no baby, but Coppertone is something I've used for over 50 years. I live in the middle of the Arizona desert. It gets HOT here and the SUN is BRIGHT! I bike all year round, and if I don't wear sun block, I fry like an egg on the sidewalk. (and yes, you can fry and egg on the sidewalk here!) I love this stuff, it smells great and I've never had it run when I sweat, and when I'm riding in 98+ degree weather, believe me, I sweat. I use this on all exposed skin. I put it on about 15 minutes before I leave the house and I have no troubles with it at all. No eye irritation what so ever at any time.

Pros: UVA/UVB Protection
Cons: Runs Easily, Runs into eyes and burns

Best Uses: None
Bottom Line: not recommended
I purchased two bottles to take to the beach and use on the entire family. Once you perspire a bit on the beach this product rolls into your eyes and its ON! My husband and I are police officers so I can tell you that when this product sweats into your eyes the effects are consistent with being sprayed by oleoresin capsicum (mace). We all suffered burning and watery eyes for hours after use and irrigation and our kids eyes turned red. This product is terrible and should certainly not be marketed toward use on babies, however, I may keep it in my cruiser in case I ever run out of mace...

I needed a sunblock to go for a walk at the park and this was the only one I could find at my friends house. It felt alright, not too greasy. Within a couple of hours in the sun I was scratching my whole entire upper body where I applied this lotion. It was crazy!! I was scratching myself until my skin turned red! When I got home, I took a shower and the itchiness was gone. My mother is also allergic to coppertone sunblocks. I don't think I would recommend their sunblocks for sensitive skin users.

I put this lotion on my 1 year old granddaughter & a few minutes later she had an allergic reaction. One side of her face turned fire red, including her nose and into the top of her head. Her 1 eye was watery and her nose started to run. I will never use this again on her.

Both my children had severe allergic reactions from this sunscreen. If I had done my research before buying it, I would have learned that it contains harsh chemicals which have even been linked to cancer. I find it hard to believe it is the "No. 1 recommended by pediatricians" as written on the bottle. I feel horrible for using this on my children.

I and my entire family used this on our week long Orlando vacation in the 95 degree hot Florida sun while walking around the theme parks and water parks 12 hours a day. None of us burned, including our faces (of course we didn't put it in or near our eyes), and it was nice not to have to constantly reapply it after every water slide in the water park.

Be really careful with this product. It does block sun, but our little boy's eyes puffed up like red tangerines when the lotion got in his eyes and he cried for 8 hours (remember... kids will rub their eyes). This stuff is vicious and I can't believe it's 'pediatrician recommended'. We even took him to the hospital. Forget the tiny instructions to "rinse with water" if it gets in eyes. It makes it worse. We ended up using gentle eye makeup remover, which helped, and a little eye moisturizer. Someone should call this brand to task for thoughtless marketing and instructions.

Cons: Quite greasy, a little sticky, and worst of all, do NOT rub it anywhere near your eyes. It stings like hell, exercise utmost caution to keep it away from your eyes. Pros: Excellent UVA sun protection thanks to avobenzone, terrific transparency so no whitish cast is observed even when heavily applied, unbeatable unit price. Bottom line: This is a superb body sunscreen, but unsuitable to use on the face.

I have a lot of trouble finding sunscreens for my face that don't burn my (adult) sensitive skin. I tried this because it is intended for babies. As I predicted, it stung much less than most. It still had a slight "tingle" or "burn" but much less than many. So far the best that I've tried. But the hunt is still on for a better one. Fine of course for the body. :)
