I have used this for many years and prefer it to ALL other soaps. I like that it is vegetable based. It works even better than coal-tar products for my Psoriasis. My hair (what there is left of it) and skin feels smooth and clean after my shower.

Pros: Cleans Effectively, Lathers Well, Moisturizing
Cons: Unpleasant Smell
Best Uses: Baths, Showers
Bottom Line: recommended
I got a horrible rash on my arms & legs after my first C-section. My ob, dermatologist, family doctor, etc. all claimed not to know what it was & said it had nothing to do with hormones or the surgery. I had a second C-section a month ago & got the same rash. The difference this time is that I used this soap & it controlled the rash. I found some stuff on the internet about women with similar experiences & someone recommended this soap. The rash was so bad I was willing to try anything. To me, the soap doesn't smell great but for the benefits I would put up with a lot worse. Highly recommended.

I love the smell of this soap and how well it cleans. I've got two outdoor dogs and have not found anything better to wash them with. It leaves their fur clean and shiny, they stop scratching right away too. May be a bit strong to use on tender skinned types, as it cleans well. For those of us with oily skin, it's a plus! Highly recommend this product.

I really enjoy using this product. My wife doesn't like the smell of pine tar soap so I have to wrap it in a wash cloth or a covered soap dish, but other than that, I give this 5 stars.

I've heard people complain about the "unpleasant smell" of this soap. I, frankly, don't know what they're talking about! Maybe my sniffer is out of whack, but I think this stuff has a fairly pleasant aroma. I, basically, use Pine Tar soap in the shower as a face soap. I have very mild acne and this product does very well in keeping it under control without resorting to high priced medications. I'd recommend it as a great all purpose soap. Dave

Pros: Cleans Effectively, Lathers Well
Cons: Sticky Residue

I have used Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap for 30 years and I used to have to go to the pharmacy to order it. It was always a pain in the rear end. They would forget to order, be discourteous towards me, never was esy to do. I would order 12 bars at a time just to avoid the process. I have pyroderma foliculitis and Grandpa's Pine Tar soap was a miracle in maintaining the embarassing rashes on my skin. A Skin Dr. recommended Grandpa's 30 years ago and it worked. At the time other Dr.'s had me on huge doses of tetracyclin. If I don't use GPTS, my skin would flare up and rash. Very frustrating without the miracle cure of Grandpa's Pine Tar soap. I've tried other pine tar soaps and nver had the same success. Try it! I LOVE IT!

After years of trying differnt things on my hands for eczema, even prescribed medication, I heard of this product from my parents. Nothing seemed to help. A few DAYS after using this tar soap I noticed a change right away. If I use any other soap now the problem will come right back. After reading other peoples reviews about the uses of this soap, I now shower and shampoo my hair with it. WOW, what a blessing this is! Like the old saying goes-try it- you'll like it. Hope it works for you as it does me. Good Luck, ED.

Pine tar is an ingredient in some of the most effective dandruff shampoos on the market. It has a soothing effect on many skin irratations that one can have. It's worth trying a bar if you're having scalp or skin problems that other soaps don't help with..

Cons: Unpleasant Smell

So far I have only tried this soap as a shampoo because I read it helps with hair loss. I've been using it for about a week now and definitely less hair has been falling out. I'm super pleased about that because I've tried many shampoos before this, all to no avail. After reading so many comments about skin benefits I will start using it for my face and body too. I have skin which alternates between being very dry and very oily, and acne and eczema prone so I am thrilled to find a soap which helps with all of these conditions. I was using dove but that contains a chemical called edta or something like that which some sources say is toxic. The pine tar soap does have a really unpleasant smell in the bathroom but the smell doesn't linger on hair so I'm sure it won't linger on body either. The other drawback is that it leaves hair very flat and lifeless because it leaves a residue on strands. It doesn't look greasy, just lifeless. These are compromises I can live with though.
