Grandpa's Wonder Pine Tar Soap rates 2 out of 5 stars, from 60 customer reviews.Didn't work
by Mia[Verified Reviewer] in Long Beach, CA on 7/30/08
Pros: Cleans Effectively, Long Lasting
Cons: Unpleasant Smell
Best Uses: Baths, Showers
Bottom Line: not recommended
I have dry and itchy skin and decided to try this product based on the rave reviews. The soap cleans well and lasts a long time, but thats about it. I don't think it ever helped my rash or itchy skin. Also, I could never ever get used to the smell. Good thing it didn't linger.

Pros: Cleans Effectively
Cons: Unpleasant Smell
Describe Yourself: Quality Oriented
Bottom Line: not recommended
I read sooo many wonderful things about this soap. I have terrible acne and i thought this was my answer after researching and researching. I stuck with this for two months. For one month, i used it with tea tree oil, and jojoba oil as my moisturizer. That didn't work, and so i thought, well everyone said they JUST used the soap, so i did that for another month. nope :/ now my acne is worse than ever. Definitely severe. I have under the skin and clogged pores EVERYWHERE- I'm not going to completely blame this soap, as obviously i am acne prone anyway, but if that's your reason for wanting to purchas this, i'm just sharing my experience. I also used this for my body acne and it helped a little in certain places, but also made worse in others, andd made me break-out in previously unaffected places.

My boys call this the BBQ sauce soap. It DOES smell like a smoked sausage or ribs, but the smell pretty much dissipates but no matter, it's so worth every penny. It leaves their skin and mine soft and silky. I usually have dry skin and my kids get eczema and little bumps on their skin. Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap has taken all of those problems AWAY! So worth it.

Whoa, what's that smell? It smells like a rustic campfire, but works heavenly. Yup, this stuff is for everyone's needs. Dry skin, check! Eczema, check! Laundry stains, CHECK! The smell will not linger on your skin, it's just the bar itself that smells potent.

I've been using Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap for 10 years. My doctor recommended it for clearing up facial acne, and it has kept the acne away ever since. It's the only soap I will use on my face. I don't know what I'd do without it. Truly a wonderful product!

This soap was the only thing that gave me relief when I had a severe PUPP rash while I was nine months pregnant. I haven't used it since, which was nine months ago, but would highly recommend for someone with a rash.

I highly recommend this product! I'm 6 months pregnant and became covered in a rash. My doctor prescribed creams - nothing was working. I tried this soap and in four days the rash started going away - it was completely gone in 2 weeks and has not been back! It doesn't smell good. BUT when you are in pain, itchy, or just plain miserable who cares what it smells like?! Each time I have used it, I left it on for a few minutes before I rinsed it off - they smell did not linger on my skin.

by Todd L[Verified Reviewer] in San Francisco, CA on 11/9/07
Now that I'm in my 50's, I've found that whatever soap I've been using in my daily shower makes me itch, which is unpleasant. This soap produces lots of rich, creamy lather. Yes, it has a strong smell of tar -- which is to be expected given its name -- and its dark brown or black for that reason. I'm always amused when people complain about the smell or the color. Tar smells and is black, even if it's pine tar. (This isn't pine oil soap, its pine tar soap.) The good news is that the smell does not linger on your skin and it's great at removing accumulated odors after yesterday's shower. I've also noticed that my back doesn't break out when I use this soap daily. Good stuff for problem skin, but people who like strongly perfumed soap won't like it.
