I hate to break the news to the folks who didn't lose weight using this product, but the reason is almost certainly that you consumed too many net carbohydrates ("net carbs") while taking Alli. Your body prefers to burn fuel in the following order: 1) Carbohydrates first 2) Fat second 3) Protein third (which is very bad to have happen) Yes, losing weight is pretty much all about losing fat. But if you restrict, block or pass fat without reducing carbs first, your body may never get to the fat, and therefore burn very little of it. On a high-carb diet (lots of potatoes, breads and pastries, pasta, foods and drinks with sugar, etc.), Alli may help prevent you from GAINING MORE weight, but may not be enough to help you to lose. If you can stand the "treatment effects", Alli is a great suppliment to a reduced-carb diet. But if you are addicted to carbs, it may just create more mess than weight loss.

3 years after giving birth I still was 20 lbs heavier than before the pregnancy and even before I was not too thing (5-6 140lbs); every time I started a diet, I'd give up after one month as it was too hard. Alli won't make you loose weight (you're lucky if it does), but it could help "to cheat" once in a while without gaining the weight back. I didn't follow low fat diet as the only diet that helped me in the past was a low-carb. I followed low-carb diet and even then I didn't experience any embarrassing side effects. If your stomach is very sensitive, you might, but then you have to reduce fat. I was pretty happy that Alli helped me to be regular with lower (than usual) food intake. Good Luck!

I first took Alli when it came out. Followed a low fat diet plan as recommended and lost some weight (maybe 5 lbs) but not much. I think your body needs some fat in order to lose weight. I later joined a local diet center and stopped Alli. I ate their food and lost 25 lbs in 8 weeks. I now find that going back to regular food, there are so many hidden fats, so I use Alli when I eat something with a little more fat than I would like to consume and I am glad to say I have not gained back any weight! Now you can't go overboard with fats or you will suffer the lovely side effects that everyone refers to. But you can cheat on your diet occasionally without gaining weight. And the good thing is that since it only works in your stomach, I can take it only on the days when I need it. You'll would be surprised to see how much fat is actually in what you think is a healthy choice (i.e. a broiled piece of fish or chicken) when you eat out!

I use it when eating something I think is fatty. I found out I do have a very fatty diet which is unhealthy. It works pretty fast - but when you have to go you have to go so not good for any days you are not right near a place to go. Also, follow the directions...I accidently took 4 in one day and it caused me a great deal of pain for a t least an hour and my stomach was pretty sore for awhile. But I have slimmed down a bit.

Dietary modifacation is essential.

Alli is not a magic pill that will make you lose weight. However, if you are eating a reduced calorie low-fat diet, the use of Alli can increase the number of pounds you lose and can increase how quickly you can lose them.Alli works by reducing the amount of fat your digestive system absorbs into the body. Alli blocks between 20% to 25% of the fat you eat from being transmitted into the body from the inside of the digestive tract.Ideally, no more than 30% of calories should be from fat. On a reduced calorie diet of 1500 calories per day, that would mean that less than 450 calories should be from fat. Of those 450 calories from fat, Alli will block somewhere between 90 and 110 calories from being absorbed each day.If you were previously eating 2000 calories and then begin eating a reduced 1500 calorie, that will save you about 500 calories a day. That equals about one pound of weigh loss every week from that diet.By adding Alli along with your reduced 1500 calorie diet, you will save an extra 90 to 110 calories per day in addition to the 500 calories you save from the diet alone. I am 21 years old and I am overweight. For years I have been through hell and back with my weight. I would have to literally starve myself in order to loose weight so I decided to try Alli. I have to admit the side effects are gross. It can be a bit embarrasing, but you have to watch what you eat and excercise otherwise it WON'T work. You can't expect the pill alone to take off pounds of fat you've put on over the years miraculously!!! I have been taking Alli for 3 weeks now and I am loving the results...I lost 11 pounds with the pill alone and excercise 3 times a week. I can enjoy a good meal once in a while without worrying about the fat. You should definetely try it and if it didn't work for you, then you definetely did something wrong!

I did lose weight with this product, but developed stomach problems -- pain, indigestion, acid trouble -- after I started using it daily for a month. Prior to Alli, I never had a hint of stomach trouble. It does help weight loss, but the combined stomach pain and orange "leakage" makes it less than desirable for daily use.

I'm still undecided on this product based on the reviews (either 1 star or 5 - few in between) but here's my experience. I used it for 3 weeks at the same time I cut back on fat and calories. I lost a couple of pounds a week - same as I would have if I hadn't taken Alli at all. First couple of days are rougher than usual but tolerable as far as side effects. I was willing to deal with unpleasantness if it'd boost my diet efforts, I mean, 50% more weight loss is a great motivator. It didn't seem to help at all. I lost what I would've lost with reduced calories and exercise. I'm 5'8" and 300lbs. Perhaps it works best for people only needing to lose less than 50 or so. I regretted buying Alli and would not recommend it.

I would give this product more stars for weight loss, because it DOES indeed help drop the pounds. I easily dropped 10 pounds within a few short weeks after starting Alli. However, I am planning to ask my doctor if it's really meant for extended use. After three months of taking Alli after every meal, I suddenly began to develop stomach problems -- for the first time in my life. I am not sure if there is a connection, but I stopped taking the Alli, and noticed my stomach problem disappeared within a week after discontinuing it.
