For all you people with acne who use harsh products that dry and aggravate your skin, this face wash has been a miracle for me, keeping my skin from going into oil-producing overdrive to try and replenish moisture. I use this every morning, (acne washes typically make skin more sensitive to the sun) and it keeps my skin looking great. It won't take off makeup, so I use other stuff at night, but this face wash is gentle yet great on the skin, even for oily, acne-prone complexions like mine.

I have used Cetaphil for the past two years, and have been pretty happy with it: it's gentle and doesn't completely dry out my skin, which is really all I was looking for (I only used it in the morning). However, over the past few months I started to notice that I kept getting these hard whiteheads that were so stubborn and would never go away. Sometimes they would turn into full-blown pimples, and sometimes they would just stay the way they were for weeks until I tried to pop them. I have never had a problem with pimples like these, or with any pimples really. I thought for some reason that Cetaphil might be causing them, so I stopped using it and the bumps went away and haven't come back. It's too bad, because I liked Cetaphil! But I guess I built up a resistance to it, so now I've got to toss it.

I use this cleanser because I am currently using prescribed topical acne creams. Since they can cause drying, my dermatologist recommended using this product. I have to say that it is a great product, especially if you use it correctly.

MYTH: Just becuase a cleanser doesn't FOAM doesn't mean it's ineffective. If it foams, it is alkaline-based, and will dry out your skin more quickly. Don't judge a cleanser by its foam!

Cetaphil isn't a detergent; it softens skin and DISSOLVES sweat, skin oils, and makeup. It works extremely well if used correctly. Gently rub it into your skin, making small circles with your fingers, for several minutes (yes, minutes). Add more Cetaphil and a few drops of water and continue rubbing. Cetaphil won't sting your eyes. Abundant hot water and a cheap (i.e. rough) washcloth provide the best rinse. If you're camping or otherwise without hot water, a couple of cotton pads will remove the slurry of disolved dirt. The "dry" rinse method is effective, but I repeat the rubbing and wiping routine a second time for my face to feel as clean as with a hot-water rinse. This 49-year-old skin-care expert and former beauty queen has used Cetaphil for years and it's a great product! Take your time and you'll get terrific results.

Well, pure water is also extremely gentle, but like this product, rubbing pure water on your face won't clean it. Since it doesn't foam, it doesn't clean adequately. I'd recommend the Johnson and Johnson Purpose line instead.

This is NOT a medicated scrub. It is not going to get rid of acne unless said acne is caused by sensitivity. If you have oily skin, use this and you don't you have to use moisturizer because you can leave a film of this on your face. IT takes off eye makeup pretty well, too.

My dermatologist thinks this is the ONLY cleanser for sensitive skin or someone with rosacea. I cannot imagine why because it is absolutely terrible at removing makeup. It's like wiping a greasy, slimy film over your face. It's hard to rinse off and very little makeup will come off with it--eye makeup will not budge. If you have sensitive skin or rosacea, I recommend the Eucerin Redness Relief gel cleanser. It is 100% better. If you have acne-prone skin you will not like Cetaphil; it leaves too much behind to block your pores. I cannot say enough about this product. Whether it is a good makeup remover depends on the makeup one uses, I think. My skin is never dry and always softened by this. This works well on mineral-based makeup, and is excellent on the "tube" forming Kiss Me mascara, which is waterproof but slides off with this product. I used it for my toddlers as hand wash when they had skin irritations. The price cannot be beat (except by the generic copies of this (can I say that? --I cannot tell the difference).
