My mother gave me the Helen of Troy or Hot Tools iron. It was great and heats up fast. I have long hair and it straightens my hair as if I just came from a salon. My daughter took it from me (smile) as her hair is very long, down her back, and it is naturally curly. She was tired of wearing her hair wet and in a ponytail most of the time and it was not good for her. When she used the flat iron, she immediately said, Mom, I'm taking this iron! She loves it and she wears her hair down now and it is beautiful. She uses a little product to keep her scalp moisturized or she uses an oil sheen, but other than that, this product is a good tool to use with black hair or mixed children, naturally curly hair. This is a must buy for the price!
