My hair is dark blonde with ligher blonde highlights. I really wanted to go with something different, and I chose an auburn brown, which looked great...on the box. The results were definitely not indicative of what was promised. This particular color dyed my hair a bright coppery red, and my highlights looked brassy orange. It looked just awful. So, I turned to this product. After reading all of the reviews, I decided to go for it. I was really skeptical at first that it would even work and I was really worried that this would dry out my already fine hair. However, it did not, and in fact, it is softer than it was before! The only thing it did do was lighten it to a lighter blonde all over. I am really happy with the results though...anything's better than that hideous orangy-red. Make sure you follow the directions exactly, though, and shampoo twice and rinse for the recommended 15-20 minutes. Make sure you use a conditioner afterwards, and for an added conditioning, you can use olive oil with a few drops of fragrance oil and let your hair absorb for about an hour. That will help with restoring any moisture lost. (I didn't have to do this but I intend to in the coming days since my poor hair has been through quite a bit). Yes, I will admit that it does smell sulfury, but after reading some of these reviews, I fully expected my entire house to smell like poo. Not true. It does have a slight smell to it and your hair may have a different odor than it usually does but it definitely is not offensive in any way (no more offensive than the smell of that dye you just used). I am happy with this product and would use it again if I had to. It definitely helps in an emergency! (And is way cheaper than if a salon did it for you...)

(This is for those with black hair that plan on useing this product) Alright my natural color is a Medium- Brown and i dyed it black and it turned darker then box color so a month later I used this and the black came out into a orange but then I re-dyed my hair the next day with light brown and i left it in for like 8 to 10 mins and my hair came out black again so Im pretty mad/upset I cant blame the product it didnt say it was for black specificly but all I can say is this product is not made for black hair, not to mention the hair is porous after you use color oops on your hair so be 100& sure to always do a strand test before dyeing it, this goes for everyone who uses this product

This stuff saved my hair. I am a natural redhead that was looking to kick the red up a bit. What I got can only be decribed as goth red, so red that it was almost purple. I bought a box of this stuff. Which I expected to smell like death but I really didn't think it was as bad as people made it sound. It saved my hair, removed about 70% of the color. I was really happy with the resuls.

This product is easy enough to use and it seems to be less harsh on the hair than other color removers. And after waiting 10 minutes (for slight color removal) I washed it out and my hair looks fine. BUT the odor is sickening. Like sewer gas! And they tell you to wash and rinse your hair for 20 minutes. I washed and rinsed my hair twice. The yukky smell was still noticable when my hair dried. This morning the its still lingering on the ends of my hair! I really can't recommend this product.

So, I have recenty done quite a number on my hair. I went from my natural dark brown to blonde, then to red, and finally back to dark brown, all in about 4 months. I regretted going back to brown, and I decided I really wanted the red hair back (everyone, including me, really loved it). I used color oops and it lifted the SEMI-permanent dark brown color right out! awesome. what was left was a faded red color very similar to the color I had before I dyed my hair brown. and now my hair feels perfectly fine (no additional damage - it was already damaged due to all the bleaching and dying.) im going to put my favorite permanent red dye on my hair in a day or two.

BACKGROUND As a naturally medium blonde 20-something, I'd been talked into going red by my salon stylist. I loved it, but 8 months down the road I was frustrated with having to touch it up every few weeks, let alone not being able to consistently find the right shade in the drug store (sorry, but I'm not paying a stylist obscene amounts of cash to do my hair every few weeks). I'm a beginner when it comes to color and didn't realize how difficult it would be to try to take my hair back to blonde after having it red for many months. I asked my stylist, who said that she could strip it, which would be time-consuming, damaging and expensive. The other option was to highlight my hair repeatedly over the course of a year or so while my natural hair grew back in (again, expensive). I thought, surely there has to be some other way... PREPARATION FOR COLOR OOPS Then I found Color Oops online. I read hundreds of reviews on multiple Web sites, some good and some frightening, and picked up lots of usage tips along the way. I proceeded to purchase two boxes of Color Oops, two boxes of hair color (Nice n Easy - Natural Dark Neutral Blonde and Natural Lightest Golden Brown) in case I had an "omg" moment, a shower cap, a wide-toothed comb and a thermal conditioning treatment (heavy duty conditioner). If you use Color Oops, I highly recommend making sure you have all these items handy. Also, read the box insert, and know it like the back of your hand. This is a must. Make sure to do a strand test. Cut out a small piece of your hair and just do it, or you'll be sorry later. Check it every five minutes so you can see the various shades of change and decide on the best time for your hair. They recommend no longer than 20 minutes. Based on mine, I saw my hair change from red to blonde after 20 minutes and elected to leave it on for the full amount of time. THE PROCESS Still, I was super nervous as I prepared the mixture and dumped it on my hair. It is a thin mixture, maybe a bit thicker than water but not by much, so be careful with the dribbles. I didn't notice any bleaching effect on the red robe I was wearing. As everyone else has said, it has a very strong odor - citrus and sulfur, so be prepared. I made sure to spread the mixture quickly and evenly, using the wide-toothed comb to ensure that my hair was fully saturated, then put the shower cap on to help "lock" in the product. I avoided being in cool areas of my house, as the insert said this could cause it not to process correctly (also a good reason to use the shower cap). I'd recommend checking your hair periodically, even after the strand test, so you don't let it go too long. Rinsing it out was a breeze in the shower. This is the most important part of the process. I kept the water warm, rinsed for several minutes, shampooed and rinsed for several minutes, and repeated once more. Rinse until your water gets cold, no joke! Your hair may feel a little stiff at this point, so use your restoring conditioner after the second shampoo. I had some left over from an older Nice n Easy kit and it worked better than the thermal treatment I bought specifically for this purpose (read on to find out why I ended up having to condition twice). THE MOMENT OF TRUTH After I got out of the shower I could tell right away that my hair was looking pretty bleached blonde and much lighter than my natural color, but probably due to the previous dyeing I'd done (most over-the-counter permanent dyes include a bleaching agent, no matter what color you choose). I dried it using my blow dryer and it came out looking pale and brassy - almost a strawberry blonde. My boyfriend said, "Your hair is kind of orange..." I didn't think it was hideous, but not exactly what I had envisioned. It didn't seem damaged, either, though I had very healthy hair to start with. REDYEING AFTER COLOR OOPS So I started thinking about that box of blonde hair color I bought to use after the Color Oops, in case it didn't turn out. Co...

I'm a natural blonde and I dyed my hair brown (I know, stupid me). As I'm sure you've read (and hopefully not experienced) the product smells really, really bad! My hair smells awful and my room just as bad! It's like I want to say a rotten chemical kind of flower smell, ick! I've taken out my trash and Febreezed the holy heck out of my room and it still smells! I suppose as far as removing color it works for some but it barely lightened my hair. Honestly, if you can afford to get it professionaly done, do not, i reapeat, DO NOT buy and use this product! Big mistake and for me not a quick fix. Now I find myself wanting to run back to my salon. Please ladies (and perhaps gentlemen) do yourself and those that have to smell you a favor and stay far far away from this horrid product. Now if there's someone you hate looking for advice, definately recommended! Otherwise don't waste your time or your air freshener.
Color Oops Hair Color Remover, Extra Strength rates 1 out of 5 stars, from 38 customer reviews.Absolutely sulphurous odor to product!!!

Pros: Natural Look, Removes previous color
Cons: Liquid Gel, Red Pigment returns, Smells Bad, Sulphur odor for a week
Describe Yourself: Minimalist
Best Uses: Removes hair color, Short hair

Bottom Line: not recommended
This product does work but the smell is horrible like sulphur for days afterwards. The product is a liquid gel-like consistency when you apply it and leave it on your hair for 20 minutes. Then the directions tell you to shampoo your hair and rinse it for another 15 to 20 MINUTES. Who has that much time to spend doing all that?!! Hence the sulphuric odor remains in your hair for a long time if you only shampoo and rinse for say 5 minutes. Your hair will smell like sulphur for at least a week, even if shampooing your hair every day. This product does remove any previous hair coloring you have used on your hair although your red pigment will show back up somewhat if you have any. I have Irish in me and my hair has lots of red pigment, but my hair didn't look horrible when Oops removed the previous hair coloring. I use an ash brown hair coloring to tone down the red pigment. I wanted to try to make my hair a shade lighter so will be using light ash brown hair coloring from now on. My hair is very short but I still used the entire bottle on it. Bottom line is this product really works if you can stand the sulphuric odor it leaves on your hair unless you can spend a full 20 minutes shampooing and rinsing your hair AFTER you use it. It really leaves a foul odor that the company should try to remove and also NOT expect anyone to spend another 20 minutes trying to remove the odor after having applied it and left it on the hair for 20 minutes. Women need quick products too like some companies make for men. Most of us women do not have that much time to spend in the bathroom, and we don't want to smell like sulphur for a week either. No one wants to be around a person who smells bad. So please be aware of all this BEFORE you purchase this product! In my opinion, I would have been better off going to Sally's Beauty Supply and purchasing a professional grade peroxide mixture to remove my hair coloring then the next day applying a lighter shade of hair color. I have done this before and actually had to do it twice to get all the red pigment out of my hair. That's why I know to use a professional grade of peroxide now instead of a box of it over-the-counter.

THIS WORKS!!!!!, July 4, 2009 Okay-my natural color hair is dark brown--I am half portugese, so its pretty dark. Over the years I have had highlights put in here and there and in the fall I usually put a brown dye in it for the winter months. In May I put highlights in that turned a dark strawberry blond and then in June went to do it again and it was too much. Most of the top of my hair was a strawberry blonde and the roots were dark and the old part that had grown out was an orange color--not good. So I got a dark color from the beauty supply and it turned black and not a good black. It was black and in some areas it had a blue tint. I washed my hair with dawn dish soap for a few days and was out in the sun and the black was not fading but some strands were getting more blue. Every morning when I looked in the mirror I wanted to cry. I havn't felt like this about my hair since high school. This morning I got online and read about color oops and I was hesitant but I kept reading---then I thought well, my hair will probably turn out orange, but orange is better than black with a blue tint--so off to the store I went. I bought a box of light brown hair dye just in case the orange was a little much. Anyways I followed the directions and when its all said and done, my hair turned out BEAUTIFUL!! The black is gone. The bluish greenish color is gone! I decided not to even put the light brown dye in. My hair has not looked this good in years. Honestly! The smell is like sulfer and even as I type, I can smell it, but that is nothing compared to having goth hair. I could not have planned this better if I tried. I never write reviews but I know that when it comes to things like hair color its always good to know how to get out of a mess sometimes. And dark hair I think is a little bit harder to dye than blonde because of the ash tones and red tones. I hope you find this review helpful and I guess you just have to weigh your options, and for me, red would have been a lot better than black/blue. Good luck.

I was trying to dye my medium brown hair to a rich, dark brown color. What I ended up with was red hair! So, that same day, I used Color Oops...I was SO mortified to find that after using this product, my hair was ORANGE. Like, bright orange. I immediately bought yet another box of hair dye (from a tried a true brand) and now my hair is a medium brown again. Don't get discouraged if after using Color Oops you're hair is not the right color--you just have to dye it again!
