Years ago I tried 1 mg. and it did not work. Luckily, this 3 mg works. It makes me drowsy and I get some sleep. For this insomniac this is a delight.

i was having problems not only going to sleep, but staying a sleep. I was walking the floor at 1am in the morning. I alternate between 1mg and 5mg depending on what's coming up the next day, the amount of exercise I got, and how busy my mind feels. While it definitely makes a MAJOR improvement in falling asleep (on normal nights, I'm suddenly out after 10-20 minutes, on more stressful ones, I start to doze after 20 minutes, and an hour later I'm usually fast asleep). It keeps me from waking up in the middle of the night and lets me ignore sounds that used to stress me out. However, all of this only works for about 6 hours, and then I'm awake and thinking, though foggy. It's also not powerful enough to let me sleep without earplugs.

LOVE it. I've been taking Melatonin for about 6 months now, and it works for me 100% of the time. I do find, however, that sometimes I need 6mg's instead of the 3mg's. I'm a big coffee drinker, and I know that's part of the reason for my insomnia. Melatonin has been the answer for me - don't have to kick my coffee fix, just take a tablet an hour or so before I want to fall asleep and I'm as good as new! No groggy-in-the-morning side effects, which was one of my main concerns. I'll admit, though, that I've had some pretty intense dreams/hallucinations on more than 1 occasion! :-)

My nights are usually, sleep for an hour wake up for 2 hours sleep for an hour, etc. Since I have been using this product, I sleep an hour turn over, look at the clock, but am able to go right back to sleep. The first night I took it, I had horrible nightmares, so bad it frightened my family. I do wake up a little groggy, but am going to continue to use it for a while longer to see if my sleep pattern can change.

I have suffered from insomnia for the larger part of my life. Through the years I have tried a great many things to find relief. None of which have brought me any relief or results. I most often prefer to go the natural route. You feel better for taking natural remedies but unfortunately many of them don't work. I think most often it's the placebo effect. Sadly for me, melatonin has been no exception. Not only has it not worked for me like others here. It wasn't worked period. Even after a couple weeks of use in hopes that my body would get used to it.

I have used this product for more than five years. No side effect. I recommended it to my friends and my family. They all tried. Results are varied. Basically, my family members think this product is great. Some of my friends did not find much help from it. But they still say it help a little. So I think it is in your gene how do you respond to Melatonin. I came from China. I know a large group of Chinese love it and it is expensive there (much more than this price). It is called 'brain platinum' in China. No, this product was not originated in China. It was introduced to China in last 6 years. It immediately had great acceptance. I used Nature's Bounty for several years when working on Psych crisis units and it allowed me to set my sleep schedule as needed for whatever hours were available, despite my lifelong initial insomnia. I swear by it.
