Yucky taste, the best results

I had this in Canada when I was on vacation. There was nothing else for sale in the little convenience store. The few nights before, I kept coughing and kept my whole family awake. The night I took Buckleys (after I gagged from the taste), my coughing was relieved. It is the only product I've used that truly relieves the coughing. The only con (besides taste) is that it doesn't work for a lengthy period of time. Repeat dosages are required for continued relief.

I had had a cough for a few days and decided to take some medicine for it. I saw this product, had never used it before, looked like it might work, so I ordered it. I should have read the reviews. I read the box and was ready for an awful taste. I had no idea it was going to taste like liquid Vapo-Rub and gasoline! The taste was so awful that I threw up 2 minutes after taking it. I will give it that it works. After coughing for about 30 mins after taking it, I have not coughed much at all. I'm not sure that I will take this product again. But I have it just in case I ever do decide to. Not sure I would recommend this product.

After hearing such wonderful reviews, I'm disappointed to find that Buckley's is ineffective for my cough. I suspect it's the type of cough I have that dictates the effectiveness of this medicine; my cough is due to severe allergies--the type of cough that tickles and itches deep in my throat and chest but produces very little fluid. It may be a matter of finding a cough medicine that is more pharmaceutically-based, likely containing a drug that interacts with my body on a deeper level (nerves, etc.). Buckley's seems more effective for productive, throat-based coughs (coughs that arise from an area that can be coated and soothed by a liquid cough syrup). Short of inhaling Buckley's, it seems it won't be able to reach the area that needs it most. Regarding the taste, it is indeed unpleasant--very much like melted Vick's Vapor Rub--but I made it perfectly tolerable by immediately following it with a drink of water. Trying it without a follow-up drink was a mistake--the vapors quickly rose into my nose, sending me choking and sputtering.

The taste is awful, but worth the trade-off. I really don't mind the taste of camphor, I'm a castor oil user, so compared to that. Buckley's is not so bad. I send my niece a bottle and will order a bottle for my mom when she runs out. My dad discovered it years ago. Since then it has been difficult to imposssible to find. Thank God for the internet...any you!

My Canadian friends told me about Buckley's -- Warned me it tastes terrible but promised it would work better than anything I had ever used. They were right on both counts. It does taste like melted vapor rub mixed with gasoline, but its worth the taste and the horrible face you will make when you take it. Its the only cough syrup I will recommend! Just have some good old southern sweet tea to chase it down -- its a multicultural cure for all that ails ya!

My mom used to give us this when we were kids. Hated the taste then, and that has NOT changed! But I still seek out this stuff even when it means special orders! I like to say that it works so fast because it "scares the bugs out of my body" -- if I'm willing to take Buckley's, I must really want to get well, FAST. The cough mixture is excellent for immediate relief of both the cough and any chest congestion--those vapors do the job!

This is the best stuff. It's the only cough medication I've tried that actually works!! The taste is worth it because it WILL take away your cough. I'd rather have something that tastes terrible but does the job than the grape flavored junk that does nothing but give you sugar &/or alcohol.

After 2 1/2 hours under anesthesia for neck surgery, my throat was raw and irritated. Coughing made everything hurt more. Buckleys was the only thing that stopped the cough. What a blessing to have it. Still keep one bottle on each floor just in case.

My daughter gave me this to try as none of the several other products I tried worked. My Granddaughters were standing around watching as I took my first tsp. I guess the look on my face was a "America's Funninest Viedo" moment. It does taste awful, say's so on the box, but chase it with a little cranberry juice right away and not as bad. It worked right away. I took a second dose before bed time and was able to sleep. Give it a try.
