Warnings
Keep out of reach of infants, Adult supervision is advised when used by children. This product is non-toxic but may interfere with breathing if caught in windpipe.
For noise environments dominated by frequencies below 500 Hz, the C-weighted environment noise level should be used. Improper fit of this device will reduce its effectiveness in attenuating noise. Consult the instructions for proper fit. Although hearing protectors can be recommended for protection against the harmful effects of impulsive noise, the Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) is based on the attenuation of continuous noise and may not be an accurate indicator of the protection attainable against impulsive noise such as gunfire. This Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) calculated from the attenuation data is 25dB. HEAROS ear plugs must be properly filtered to attenuate noise effectively. Refer to directions.
I'm a very light sleeper and have tried lots of earplugs. I am commenting on the Hearos "Extreme" and not other Hearos ear plugs.
They are highly effective but they have a certain way of being inserted. 1) Roll the smaller end that goes into your ear between your fingers so it gets thinner. 2) Wet the end either with saliva or with water. (This is needed if your ear canal is not straight. It is difficult to push a piece of foam into a curved canal. If it's wet, it slides right in.) 3) Insert into your ear. All the way till it touches your ear drum will provide the best sound occlusion. The father away from the ear drum the less it occludes, so you can decide how much you want.
With it all the way to the ear drum I can't hear anything outside of the perimeter of my bed, but I can still hear my phone and alarm clock on my night stand.
I use a single pair until they don't roll down thinner easily. Eventually the foam just doesn't work as well. Sometimes my ear will itch but this is just from a buildup of ear wax during the night and I take it out and scratch or it goes away. It's not a serious problem. These have improved my sleep enormously!!!

The new one is too soft & I just couldn't insert it into my ear canal. huge disappointment. now I need to look for a new brand!
I used the previous version daily for many years. The formulation was recently changed to where the ear plugs are longer now and of a different material density. The new version just isn't comfortable and doesn't work. I hope the previous version comes back since I've found nothing else on the market to replace them yet.

My husband has a chronic problem with snoring, which results in me not being able to sleep, or getting woken up often. These ear plugs effectively block most of the sound, enough for me to sleep. Only downside is that they need replaced fairly often to effectively block the sounds.
I have Fibromyalgia which not only makes you more sensitive to sound, but also completely messes up your sleep cycles. Always an early to bed, early to rise girl, I find myself zombie like in the morning and wide awake at 2:00 am. Such an adjustment. I decided rather than fight, I'd adjust to this new, unpleasant sleep cycle. I also had a very noisy neighbor who loved to crank the Mariachi music at 8:00 am, perhaps just 4 hours after I had finally fallen asleep. The answer was to start wearing ear plugs. Hesitant because I live alone (no one to alert me to say a fire or a break in)I tried and I was a happy girl. I finally could get passed the morning noise in general and my crazy neighbor specifically. I now live in a fairly quiet apartment, but will always use my ear plugs until I can get myself back on a decent sleep schedule.
Have used these for a few years to cut down noise while flying and sleeping. Have tried two other brands and they cannot compare as far as comfort and noise reduction.
I use these because the condo above mine was renovated to hardwood floors and the new neighbor's floor creaking and floor thumping would keep me awake at night. With these though, I sleep through it all. They fit snugly and don't fall out of the ears. I wear them 8-12 hours with absolutely no discomfort. I do recommend watching the video to learn how to properly insert them, or they won't give you the maximum benefit. After the first couple of tries I got the hang of it and they work marvelously!! Hearos saved my sanity!!
Ear plugs must be inserted properly for optimum performance.
With clean hands, firmly roll entire ear plug between thumb and fingers to form a thin tight cylinder
Using one hand, gently lift top of ear up to open ear canal. With other hand, insert rounded end of ear plug
With forefinger, hold ear plug in place intil it expands to form a comfortable, snug fit.
Practice of insertion is recommended. Please refer to the audio and video instructions ar Hearos.com. Discard prosuct after several uses or as soon as dirt or wax accumulates on ear plugs.
