I find that a small price to pay for the lengthening effects it gives. Though it does not thicken, I follow two coats of this with a coat of 2000 calorie mascara for the thickening and the combination works great as well as cut down on the flaking. I do however have to buy twice as much of this as I do other mascaras as it either dries out quicker or contains less product than other brands. It applies evenly and easily since the brush is pretty skinny so it allows you to reach all those tiny hairs. I can apply it first thing in the morning and it will never flake or smudge throughout the day. Also, the thick formula really helps keep the curl in my lashes all day long. This has been the only mascara that keeps them curled all day long, not to mention, lengthens. Because it's waterproof, it does take some heavy duty eye makeup remover but that just proves its staying power. This truly is the best mascara I've ever used. If you start from the base of your lashes and wiggle outward it really gives a lot of definition. You have a lot of control with the brush. For example if I start from the base and wiggle outward but toward the end of my eyebrow it creates a lovely flared look. It's great for daytime but also stands out on a darker nightime eye.
