We tried this product for a couple of weeks, hoping we would get used to the sounds and that our "inner clocks" would learn to wake up to them. We liked the idea for the gradual light and the soothing wake up. Unfortunately, I guess we sleep too deeply because we kept sleeping through the "alarm"

We use it on work mornings. It's refreshing waking to a bright room rather than a loud buzzing alarm clock.

I have wanted a daylight simulating alarm clock for a while and this season of dark mornings finally got serious and bought one. Wanted to go with one I could trust that would provide decent light and I was happy to see Philips made one and that it was readily available through drugstore.com. Definitely am wakened more gently and the available wakeup sounds are great too. This is a serious helper in a peaceful winter wakeup!

I got this because I have S.A.D and come fall, I am unable to function properly from the moment I wake up till noon. I got this based on the reviews and for its promised light strength. When I first turned it on I was not impressed by the light at all. I decided to give it a try before returning it. Surprisingly, it works! I wake up and don't drag myself around like a zombie. Granted, I never had a problem with actually waking up, just getting up and going. If you are one of these people who need an army to wake up, this may not be for you. Some cons: the display is too dim to see when the light is on; the settings are not the most intuitive; the bulb is not replaceable by the user; and of course, the price ain't cheap. But over all, it does what it promises.

It is amazing how much more pleasant it is to wake up to an "alarm" with this. You truly do wake up slowly as your room gets brighter and the quality of the light is very real - I'm sometimes surprised to see that it is still dark outside! Lots of optionsfor sound as a secondary alarm too.

This light makes it so much easier to get up in the morning. I get up at 5:30, so it is very dark out. The sounds are nice, I just wish there were more options. The drums seem too chaotic to wake up to, but I also think they would be the most effective for deep sleepers. The programming could be easier, I think they gave up some ease of use for a sleeker design. My husband was afraid that he would sleep through it, so he set up our old alarm clock for two days, then he wanted the light back!
Philips Wake-up Light (HF3480) rates 3 out of 5 stars, from 20 customer reviews.Pretty Okay

Being an ear-plug wearing sleeper (share bed with loud snorer), I thought this wake-up light would be the perfect solution to not being able to hear my alarm. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to help much in the summer when it's already bright when I have to get up. Hoping it will do the trick in the winter. About the product itself, I found the controls are really hard to get the hang of. Wish it was more intuitive to set and operate. Seems they traded sleek design for practicality, which would be okay but as a whole, it's pretty ugly and takes up a lot of night stand space. Otherwise, the big positives are that I do like the glow of the light and the bird chirps are lovely.

I gave this one to my daughter to use and she loves it. The gradually increasing light gently rouses her, though she still generally doesn't get up until that actual alarm goes off. Still, for one who is NOT a morning person, she is generally more awake on the days she uses this. The controls are confusing and difficult to master, at first. The push/dial controls definitely take some getting used to. Once you get used to them, though, they aren't so bad. The biggest peeve is that it doesn't seem to allow for separate "go to sleep" and "wake up" settings. You can't have the brightness on 1, say, for going to sleep, and 20 for waking up. Same with the volume. Can't listen to quiet soothing music to fall asleep to if you prefer things a tad louder when you wake up. There seems to be only ONE setting for brightness and ONE setting for volume. In a fixture that costs as much as this one does, I would expect them to have taken this kind of thing into consideration. Major FAIL, there. Overall it is a welcome addition to our household, with the minor disappointment mentioned above. If they'd addressed that in the original design, I'd have given this a 5-star rating!

I have always been a bit annoyed by the abrupt loud sound that comes with a normal alarm clock. Now I have the Philip wake up light which is absolutely amazing. There are four sounds (very soothing) that you can choose, I like the bird one the most. The sounds start very gentle and gradually increase the volumn as well as the light becomes gradually brighter. You will wake up much more natually compared to using an alarm clock. Very sleek design, white color which should fit in with any color tone of the bedroom. Only thing is that now evey kid also wants one for their rooms and that can easily add up the cost. The price is high for sure, but if you are willing to pay, the product definitely is very effective.

This item surprised me! I work a midnight shift six days a week and found it difficult to wake up most of the time. I searched frantically for a solution only to be disappointed time after time. This alarm/light seemed promising so i gave it a shot. Wow! This thing gets bright! I still use my regular alarm with it (just in case) but I rely mostly on this item to wake up.
