I wanted an alternative to SSRIs. I had a hard time with side effects of SSRI. This is much milder. Only very slight nausea and very slight sleep disturbance the first few days. Not sure if it is working for my mood; still trying the product out!

This is the BEST 5-HTP product that I have ever used, and I attribute its effectiveness to the fact that there aren't additional ingredients that, although those added ingredients may be sleep-inducing for others, actually work against me. On the occasion that I cannot fall asleep at night, I take one capsule with about seven swallows of water. Within 15 minutes, I have always been asleep. I wake refreshed in the morning without having had any unusual dream activity. I keep the 5-HTP in my nightstand and a bottle of water on my nightstand.

I purchased this product to help with anxiety and sleep. I find that 5-HTP really does help and I recommend it to anyone who has mild anxiety or sleeplessness. I combine it with calcium and take one 50mg pill when I go to bed. I have not noticed any bad side effects - I do dream more, but they are not nightmares or anything to be concerned with.
