I also henna my hair, and pour some in the henna mixture. Tree tea oil also repels lice, just an added bonus.I used to suffer from severe acne. I was on accutane twice, once when I was 19, and again at age 26. Until just a couple of years ago, I constantly had to treat with a dermatologist to keep me face from erupting. But I've found some natural products that have given me beautiful skin for the first time in my life. My routine goes like so: First I pre-cleanse my face with jojoba oil. I pour about four drops on my palm and rub it onto my face for a couple of minutes. Sometimes I will then press a warm wet cloth against my face to bring out dirt/grime. Then I wash my face with a gentle cleaner. I do this morning and night. Second I use a witchhazel/tree tea oil toner. I add about a 1/2 oz. of tree toil to a bottle of witch hazel and it makes the most amazing toner I've ever used. Third I use benzoyl peroxide. You won't need this if you are not acne prone. Fourth I use a face cream with glycolic acid. Aqua Glycolic and [@] have good products. The glycolic acid encourages rapid skin growth and helps keep your skin clear. Supposedly it is a good anti-aging product. In the morning I then apply sunscreen, at least 50 SPF. If my skin still needs it, I apply moisturizer. At night I mix a couple drops of jojoba oil in my moisturizer. I don't add the oil in the morning because it's a little greasy. And my makeup won't stay on if I have jojoba oil on my skin. But the JO is an amazing make-up remover! This is the best regimen I have found - when I tell people who haven't known me for years that I used to have cystic acne, they can't believe it. This product made my skin very dry and extremely sensitive. It caused immediate skin irritation -- redness, peeling, and somewhat worsened acne in the areas where I used it. (And I diluted it with water.) It did seem to have some antiseptic value, but not equal to that of hydrogen peroxide or benzoyl peroxide. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with even slightly sensitive skin unless tested in a tiny area first, and I would never use it on a pet. (My dog was attracted to the fragrance of it, and I wouldn't want a pet to ingest something this strong.) It's not the worst thing I ever tried (it didn't cause a rash), and the negative effects started to disappear the day I stopped using it, but it was a total waste of money for me. Comments about Desert Essence 100% Australian Tea Tree Oil, 2 fl oz: When I was a teen I had moderate acne and flare ups. NOTHING ever worked! About 6 years ago I saw someone recommend tea tree oil as a natural alternative to fight acne. Long story short, I gave it a try, using it like an astringent every morning. I could not believe how well it worked! It cut my down my break outs by at least 80% and worked so well at keeping forming acne under control by either stopping it from forming or reducing the size. My skin became soooo much clearer after I started using tea tree oil. Its a natural anti-bacterial, so it is great for acne. 6 years later and I still use it, but not as much in my late 20's because I just don't get as much acne anymore. People tell me my skin looks great and I credit it to tea tree oil. I think it helps improve the overall look of my skin too. It does have a strong smell, but it goes away in 10 min and no one has ever made a comment to me about a strong mint-like smell. Do not get this in your eyes, as I accidentally did, it was excruciating! Do not sit by a fan when you put it on, it may cause it to burn a bit. When it is cold out, it can be very drying on the skin. Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Was this review helpful? Comments about Desert Essence 100% Australian Tea Tree Oil, 2 fl oz: I bought this primarily to treat my acne with and I do believe it is helping some. I love the smell and like how natural it is. There are also many other uses for it and although the bottle is small, it's too be diluted for use so it goes a very long way and I expect the bottle to last me a couple years. Comments about Desert Essence 100% Australian Tea Tree Oil, 2 fl oz: I found that for how much this product stings, it's not worth the minimal effects on acne. I have sensitive skin, and using this really burns! Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend Was this review helpful? Comments about Desert Essence 100% Australian Tea Tree Oil, 2 fl oz: I have been a long time user of tea tree oil for my cystic acne (there is nothing in the world that treats acne like tea tree oil). It was first explained to me that only an oil could destroy a pimple that deep, because only an oil would soak into the skin. It sounded counter-intuitive, I believe it. One day I was bitten by some type of spider, and the dermatologist had no idea why the treatments weren't working. The area got more and more infected, was black-ish and swelling and painful and itchy. No amount of cream did anything. I asked the doctor if I could try tea tree oil and he scoffed at my all-natural recommendation. I went home, tried it, and used it three times a day on the bite instead of the 3x/day cream, and within 3-4 days, it was gone. Totally gone. I went back for my follow-up only for an "I-told-you-so" moment, since I was clearly better, and the dermatologist couldn't believe me. I even showed him his full tube of cream. If this stuff can cure my horrible pimples, and conquer a spider bite no amount of antihistamine or cream could fix, and heal scratches seemingly overnight, I am keeping it on hand, in the largest container I can find, for the rest of my life! Two things, though, if you are going to use it for acne: One, I have very sensitive skin, and yes, it is drying. It's going to quickly kill your pimple, you're going to have to put up with a little flakiness, it's not magic. Two, if you are a person who picks at your blemishes, then try some tea tree oil on a cotton ball pressed against the blemish for a good 20-30 minutes. Otherwise, I rub it in super well with a clean finger tip, directly on the blemish. I don't usually write reviews, but I tell everyone I know about tea tree oil, and Desert Essence makes an affordable product in a variety of sizes, widely available, and reliably pure enough to use undiluted on my skin (sparingly). It's a must for every medicine cabinets. Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend (4 of 4 customers found this review helpful) Was this review helpful? Comments about Desert Essence 100% Australian Tea Tree Oil, 2 fl oz: Tea tree oil is a fantastic product to use on skin blemishes and infections. It is very potent, so this 100% oil should be used cautiously on the face. Never use on mucous membranes or in the mouth/eyes/nose. Very effective antiinflammatory and antimicrobial for tinea (athlete's foot, ringworm), impetigo, acne, etc, but overuse will cause dryness and irritation of the skin. I always take it with me when traveling! Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend (1 of 1 customers found this review helpful) Was this review helpful?
