The particular dosage of zinc in this tablet was recommended, which is why I went with this brand. I chew on 1 tablet each 4 hours at the first sign of a cold. I work in a health care facility, so I'm exposed to a lot of germs and frequently feel a cold coming on. So far this winter, I have not had a really bad cold, which I always do--stuffed sinuses, cough, low-grade fever, post nasal drip, fatigue and headaches. First time in decades. And we've had a bad winter! I attribute my success in evading illness with this little tablet.

My teenagers and I have used when we FIRST feel a cold coming on. Most of the time it seems to stop us from getting the cold or reduce the cold severity. Of course, there's no way to be 100% certain it's the Zinc stopping the cold and not something else, but it seems to help . . . Plus it doesn't taste as nasty as some zinc products.

I agree with bkbak!. I've used this product for almost 20 years and never suffered through the usual "local crud". I either didn't get sick or I just felt a little bad for a couple of days. These tablets are very tart but they remind me of the taste of "Sweet Tarts." BTW - My local Safeway doesn't carry this product in their store anymore! Glad I checked drugstore.com! Thanks.

The point of a zinc lozenge is to slowly suck on it in order for the zinc to coat the throat and thereby inhibit viruses from lingering in the throat and turning into a bad cold or worse. There should be little to no sugar which otherwise provides a perfect breeding zone for bacteria and viruses. Therefore, this product does exactly what it is supposed to do. The taste is tangy and has something to be desired but IT WORKS! I'd rather have a slightly sour taste in my mouth for a couple of minutes than get a bad cold. Zinc which is swallowed does not coat the throat and other lozenges are too high in sugar and enable bacteria and viruses to breed.

I only took one of these and didn't even get through the whole thing. According to directions you are supposed to let the tablet melt in your mouth but the taste was so unappetizing that i ended up spitting it out and flushing the remainder of the bottle. I would just stick with a zinc supplement and vitamin C tablets, at least you can swallow the zinc and the vitamin C tablets taste like orange juice.
Recommended Dosage: Take one lozenge every two hours, up to six lozenges per day. Allow lozenge to dissolve slowly in mouth. Best used at the onset of throat irritation. This product should not be used more than 7 days.
