ANatural History. From a bluff high above the Mississippi River in Winona, Minnesota comes the purity of Watkins. It's wholesome, and it's never "doctored up" like some big city factory products. Watkins has been good and natural through and through since 1868. We invented natural products. (Of course, we didn't exactly know it at the time, but our instincts were right.)

I had used my friends detergent as mine arrived package broken with detergent all over my order. Customer service handled my issue quite well and I was pleased. Anyway, before deciding on a second order, I tried some of my friend's detergent (she too was sensitive and had problems with this product so she gave me her detergent). I used it on several loads and even washing in hot water and after TRIPLE RINSING , white powder crystals were left behind on clothes--even this cotton linens--that were again triple rinsed. I had overcome the issue of powder residue left behind on the clothes. I had taken the amount of detergent needed for the load and had placed the amount in a large glass with hot water. I stirred the solution and then allowed to mixture to sit at least one hour (mostly 3 hours). I washed this way--no more powder residue--great! But what remained was still of issue: I itched like CRAZY after using this detergent and noticed holes on my brand new cotton clothes. NO THANK YOU!
Felt I needed to counter the bad review. I was looking for an environmentally-friendly laundry detergent so I tried this. I do need to stain treat garments & sometimes use a laundry booster or bleach, but I need those same products for brands like Tide when something is heavily soiled. I like Watkins for everyday items--towels, bed linens, cotton clothing, etc. I also noticed that with some unscented laundry products, I missed the "clean" scent. I don't with Watkins.
I wanted so badly for this laundry detergent to be good because I loved the idea of concentrated, unscented and environmentally friendly cleaning but it simply doesn't work. I had to rewash a load of lightly soiled laundry three times and the clothes were still dingy. Ultimately, I threw the box away because I didn't want to waste anymore water and went back to Tide or All unscented.
For best results: Add J.R. Watkins Laundry Detergent to washer and begin filling with water before adding clothes. For heavily soiled clothes or hard water use slightly more detergent. Before using J.R. Watkins Laundry Detergent for the first time, clean washer of any residue left from previous detergents. Fill machine with water and add J.R. Watkins Laundry Detergent. Run machine through one complete cycle without clothing.
