I did almost panic slightly and forgetting one part of the instructions, continued on the back of the card for the last few drops (you're supposed to deposit on the front, soaking through to the back), but I called the help line afterward and they said it was fine. They also confirmed that the Valium I had to take beforehand would not affect the results. :) VS Most Liked Negative Review Scary results procedure... It...Read complete review I just used the Home Access HIV Test Kit for the fourth time. Each time I previously used the kit I had no problems with either the test or getting the results. It seems, however that they have changed the way that you receive the results a bit. Home Access used to have a 24-hour hotline that you could call to get your results, but now they seem to observe regular hours in CST. First a little background: I took my test on the 23rd of December, approximately 3 months after a stupid drunken night that lead to a possible exposure to HIV. Taking the test this time was perhaps one of the scariest as two weeks prior, my best friend found out that he was HIV +. It devastated both of us and I became even more concerned about my encounter a few months earlier.Result day: Now, once I sent the test results in I waited five business days to call in for the results (I have learned from previous experience that the results usually come much faster than the published 7 days and paying $20 more for the 1 day test kit is ridiculous to me since I had already waited 3 months). Upon calling the 800 number on the 2nd of January (not a holiday) I started through the process, listening to the message, entering my code, praying for the nice recorded voice that says, “Your test result was negative…”, instead, unlike all of my previous calls I got a, “please hold on”. At this point I started to freak out, I had never experienced this before and instantly assumed (yes after reading in the instructions that I shouldn’t) had to speak to a counselor because I was HIV+. I waited about 1 minute and then got a recorded message, “Home Access is closed for the holidays and will reopen on January 4th”. I hung up the phone and instantly collapsed. I had to wait three more days, in total uncertainty and confusion about why I needed to speak to a counselor. I started to do the worst thing possible, searching the internet for more information. I couldn’t figure out if everyone who was trying to get their results got that message, if only those that were HIV+ got it, or what. It drove me crazy that I couldn’t find anything on it, especially on the Home Access website. I eventually settled myself down and tried to make it through some of the worst 3 threes of my life.Result day +3 days: After three days I called up Home Access again to get my test results, shaking, I entered my pin number, again I was transferred to a counselor. I was terrified as I had convinced myself that the only reason I was transferred the first time I called was because they were closed. I waited on hold for about was seemed 5 days, but was probably about 5 minutes. I thought to myself, surly they wouldn’t keep me on hold, listening to the Vivaldi classical hold music if I was HIV+, would they? Finally, I was connected to a counselor who informed me that the test came back NEGATIVE. I had planned to really complain at that time about the result process, but just said thank you and hung up, I needed to catch my breath before complaining. In the end: Don’t freak out if you need to talk a counselor. Check the Home Access website for holiday schedules and know them before you call in for your results. And finally, don’t go out and do stupid things like I did, protect yourself! Cons Best Uses Comments about Home Access HIV - 1 Test System, 1 ea: Directions are very specific and clear, easy to follow. Mailed the sample on Monday, results were available on Friday evening. Very fast! Totally anonymous; you use a number to get your results, so your name is not associated with the sample. If you go to a doctor or health clinic, they have your name, and if the result is positive (ie, you have HIV), they have to report you to a national list. Mine was negative, but I just feel better knowing that no one else knows about it.

Cons Best Uses Comments about Home Access HIV - 1 Test System, 1 ea: I have used this product maybe 5 times in the past 8 years. And 4 out of 5 times I have had no issue. However, I purchased this product in the month of November. I did the test, and mailed it on tuesday November 15th. But it was postmarked wednesday November 16th, which is the day it was sent out by the post office. With that being said, delivery should have taken about 3 days. The lab is not open on Saturdays. So they should have received the sample on Monday the 21st. Which is still 5-6 days after the sample was obtained. The sample is good for 10 days. The lab was closed on November 24th and 25th for thanksgiving. I was told that my sample EXPIRED. Which means that my sample was just sitting around for an extra 5 days after they received my sample. They blamed the holidays for this, and their lab being closed. I did not call them back to negotiate a refund or new test. Because I was due for a check up from my medical doctor and it was very easy for him to run a test from his own lab. I am disappointed that because of a holiday that occurred almost one week after my sample was sent (a holiday they knew was coming and should have made proper arrangements for) my money and time was wasted. This was a routine test. But if I was someone who had had an exposure, who was riddled with fear or anxiety, this would have been devastating. And is therefore intolerable. I'm not using this product anymore. I will just go to my medical doctor from now on. I will not tell someone to NOT use it. Because I have had good experiences with the product in the past. But never use in a holiday month. Because they are closed on holidays, the day after holidays, and on Saturdays. And your sample is only good for 10 days.

Cons Best Uses Comments about Home Access HIV - 1 Test System, 1 ea: [...] The test included very easy to follow directions. I was afraid that it would be difficult to collect enough blood to cover the card, but it was very easy, and the lancets were very effective (I only needed to use one). However, there is no tracking available once you mail the test to the lab. They received mine the day before it would have been considered untestable. If you have any type of anxiety about taking the test, make sure that you buy the 1-day express test. It would definitely have been worth the extra few dollars. Also, do not panic if your results are not available until the 7th day. Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Was this review helpful? Cons Best Uses Comments about Home Access HIV - 1 Test System, 1 ea: After reading the reviews for this product, I had high expectations that it would be easy, discrete, reliable and private. All of these would be true, if I ever got my results. I called (as instructed) after waiting 7 days after mailing and there were no results. Ten days after mailing, I spoke with a counselor who told blamed my lack of results on the US Mail. In total, I spoke with 3 counselors who were universally unhelpful. Comments about Home Access HIV - 1 Test System, 1 ea: I used this product a couple of weeks ago for privacy purposes. I was so scared, I hadn't taken an HIV test in years. These instructions were easy to follow and doing the test itself was very quick and painless. I filled the circle in one try. Believe me, I am afraid of needles so pricking myself was not easy. But I did as the instructions said by placing the lancet on a flat surface, stuck my finger on top and it was over. I called just about every day to practive getting my results. The instructions say to wait 7 business days for results but I got mine in 5. I was negative! I am so happy for this product because I don't think I could have done it otherwise. So worth the money! Comments about Home Access HIV - 1 Test System, 1 ea: I'm giving this a 1-star rating and I know there aren't too many of these in the reviews. Prior to buying this I was skeptical about a home test and it's effectiveness, but was so convinced after reading the reviews I decided to give it a shot. When I was about to use this product everything was clear & easy to follow. Shipped it out that same day and the test results, per the product, state that results should be ready in 3 business days. So I called in 4 business days after and NOTHING!...a wk from day of shipment, still nothing...the following day, still NOTHING! Note that I called last on the 8TH DAY! so here I am writing this review up because it truly is not worth the crazy adrenaline rush & when you call them up, the so called "counselors" do not sound professional at all (sounding like GED graduates, if even that), speak in a confused yet monotone voice, & make statements like "um if you don't get an answer by thurs [on the 11th day] we will ship you another kit, but try again tommorrow [today] to see if they have them"....
