Worth the gross out factor

Bottom Line: recommended

I love these things. Granted, it's kinda gross to remove a cup that you've had in for awhile, but the fact that you don't have to worry about your period for 24 hours makes it all worthwhile.

These are incredible, I will never use anything else, and have been using them for over 9 years. They can be messy, but no one should write a review after one use!!!! Bleeding for a week is messy no matter what. You have to use them the right way first! They are not painful and messy comes with the territory. I would rather have a little manageable messiness rather than a moldy-smelling nasty piece of cotton festering bacteria inside me. You do have to use these for a while to understand your limits (how long to use on heavy days, etc.) Your hands wash, I wash my hands after I go to the bathroom any way, as should everyone else, so a little mess shouldn't matter!! The freedom these provide is incredible, you can go on with life, no strings, no big pads, you can't tell you have your period unless you have cramps! These are so natural and can't be beat!!!!!!! LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I decided to give the instead soft cups a try and so far, all I can do is smile. If you have ever been one of those women who have always had a heavy flow and hated using tampons, this is a product for you! There can be a little leakage as you first learn how to properly insert it, but if you have ever had to wear a pad that felt like the equivalent of a pillow, using only a pantyliner instead during your first attempts in and of itself is a blessing. It is messy to remove, but there are some great ideas in other posts here to help eliminate that problem as well. I will also try the diva cup soon, as the limited amount of waste products seems an added bonus.

How did I not try these sooner? I LOVE this product. It took me about 4 insertions to really get the hang of it, if I didn't have my usual cramps I wouldn't even notice I was on my period except when changing it. I can't feel it when it's in, and once you get a little more familiar with your innards, insertion is pretty easy. Removal was pretty self-explanatory, no problems there. Reasons I gave it four instead of 5 stars: (1.) I could see how it wouldn't work for everyone, it BARELY fits me. (2.) It's not reusable. I wish the Diva Cup and Instead would meet halfway and make the diaphragm-style cup out of reusable materials because I prefer the Instead style but wish I didn't have to throw them away and that the ring was a bit softer. But until that comes along I'll stick with Instead, I think it's easier to use plus you can wear it during sex. At any rate it's 1000x better than shoving a wad of cotton in your vagina or sitting on a pad all day. Would highly recommend this product.

This does take a few days to get use to on your first cycle but if you keep trying you will wonder how you ever lived without them. I used to go through an entire box of tampons, but with these I only use half the box. I love that there is no string to move out of the way when you have to go between changes. It has made this part of my life just a little less miserable. Give them a fair chance before you give up. You won't regret it!

These do take some getting used to as they're VERY different from tampons and pads but I've been happily using them for over 5 years now and am thrilled! They're great on lighter days as they don't dry you out like tampons, and on heavier days they last way longer than tampons would with no leakage. The only thing is that on heavy days they are rather messy to remove, which is why I routinely keep latex gloves with the cups - especially in my purse. But, because you don't need to change them that frequently it's really not that big of an issue. I'd definitely recommend them to everyone!

This product is an absolute dream. I use to have to wear a pad and a tampon but with this cup I just wear a panty liner in case it leaks (like on my heavy days), and it seems like I have fewer cramps using the cup then using pads and tampons. This is a keeper here.

These are easy to insert and the protection is great. I still only give it 2 stars because they are painful to wear and gave me horrible cramps. I'm not sure if it's just me or if other people have had similar problems. Removing it was no picnic either. I will not use these again.

I really like using Instead. With the "super" sized tampons, I still have to change at least once every hour on my heaviest days. Not very convenient. With Instead, I spend less time in the restroom and I'm not worried about leaking. If you're new to it, it does take some time to figure out how frequently you need to change them. It says you can wear them up to 12 hours but that doesn't necessarily mean it won't fill up before then. I find that once they're in, I can't feel them. I've seen some bad reviews of this product here, and let's face it: we're all different in there. For me, this one's a keeper.

I tried this product and was extremely unsatisfied with it. It's uncomfortable but manageable. I left in but when I removed it, it had shifted and wasn't in the correct position. It's messy. I don't want to use it anymore. I rather stick to tampons or try the new alternatives that came out.
