Being a foster mom to two African American boys and not being African American myself, I had a lot to learn about hair in a short amount of time! One kiddo has very coarse curly hair that we have to keep short until it fills itself in as he ages. The other has fine, long, wavy hair that takes a bit to get done. I tried about a dozen products trying to find a product that met all my needs- detangling, soft texture, a fair amount of style hold, nice smell, no greasy residue when dry- This is that product! I use a generous amount after washing their hair (2-3 times a week or it will get too dried out. Less often for AA girl's) I pick through with a nice thick pick to get the tangles, then comb through with a fine-ish toothed comb to spread the product evenly. Then, pick again. Pat down with your hands to achieve the height of afro that you're wanting and spray with an argon oil to achieve shine. There is no greasiness after the product has dried (saving pillowcases and car seats), and it holds for a good day, with a small amount used for touch ups until the next washing. I hear that it is excellent for most thick-stranded ethnic hair because of its perfect amount of weight without an oily residue.

This is a long review, but I feel a back story might help others who may be having issues with their afro hair, as I was. This was written with good intentions!

I started using the green line just over a year ago. Up until that point I used the yellow line and was experiencing a lot of shedding after styling. My hair had been in its natural state for years at that point but I used to use powerful hair dryers and ceramic straighteners on occasion, so I imagine it was heat damaged at the time.

I developed a personal regimen which includes mixing this product with particular oils and aloe juice and decided to use it daily. I have fine afro hair with tight coils, which was a short to medium length at the time. Unless I bumped it (bantu knotted it) at night, it would have hardly any body at all and could look very thin at times. I wanted body and wanted to grow it long, so I had it trimmed professionally in April of last year. After the consultation I decided to trim my ends myself. I've trimmed every 3-4 months to remove split ends and straggly hair.

I started a daily and weekly maintenance routine with this product and a couple of others in the green label range. Within 6 months, my hair was noticeably longer, healthier, and easier to care for and play with. My hair is now at shoulder length, some days past it, and is bouncy, light and full of body. It is much thicker now. I wear it as a fro on most days. To have my hair blowing in the wind looking healthy is a dream come true!

Regarding the smell, everyone has their own particular taste and if they don't like it, so be it. The product smells exactly how natural plants and essential oils should when mixed together. Nothing synthetic about it as far as I can tell, I have no issues with the beautiful plants and their scent in the thickening growth milk.

I have adjusted my use of this product to every few days or so. I cannot say whether it was my overall routine which includes essential oils, weekly scalp massaging and drinking lots of water, to name a couple of things, or if it was this specific product that did the trick, but I will continue using this as long as my hair shows improvement. I'd like to add, when I don't use it as much, it sheds more.

I am in love with the Shea Moisture products. I am a genuine new fan of theirs and I hope they never raise their prices or change their recipes. I have been using organic products and making my own of whatever I can for at least 20 years. This stuff is a bargain! Take it from me, I only use quality products and I am stunned at how cheap this product is. It's like having a plush ongoing beauty treatment for your hair.

Let me start off by saying this has not made my hair fall out nor do I think it'll make you go bald like some reviewers have said... Smells pretty good. I use in addition to SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter Shampoo and Conditioner. You have to apply to damp/wet hair and work through. I put it in after I shower and towel dry my hair a little them comb it through. Detangles my hair and makes it feel smooth and silky! I used to have a HUGE problem with my hair falling out- used to lose a handful of hair every time I shampooed- yikes! Now I hardly loose any at all! This may not work if your a male and going bald- I believe this is meant to help improve hair health and breakage not prevent male pattern baldness... Would definitely recommend! Love all the SheaMoisture products!

I use it on my thin, aa transitioning hair. It has a nice smell, its light and Doesnt weigh my hair Down. Good leave in. I use it on my straightened hair before applying oil, it Doesn't revert either. Made my hair thicker over time (1 month or so)

after the first use this product made my hair extremely dry, and had to rewash my hair again, I've tried this using product on several occasions to see if I was doing something wrong, but got the same over drying results, even now I'm still suffering from the drying effects of using this yucca and baobab line and I wanted so much to like it, bummer!

I have been using this product from last 10 days. On day one it was good but starting from day two I have noticed a sudden loss of hair. Hair will be sticky. I can see white (color of this product) spots on my hair. It's makes ur hair look like a fell applied hair. I don't think it will do what it say I would better keep away from this product.

I had this product about a week, on day one I felt great as soon I reached day 2 I noticed my hair is falling but I thought that it is from the previous damage. On day 3,4,5 it became worse. It started to dry and breakout my hair from the roots. Now I can see my scalp thru the hair. My intention is to stop my hair loss not to initiate the loss that I don't have :(

I love this product and all the Shea Moisture products because they are all-natural and don't make me breakout--I've had problems in the past with skin allergies caused by bizarre natural ingredients in products.

This product is great to leave-in if you have dry, brittle, chemically-treated hair like I do. My hair stays moisturized all day without feeling flakey or product-heavy.

It's best to apply this "moisture milk" after getting out of the shower when hair is still wet. That way the product will spread easily.

I bought this product about six months from elsewhere. It does what it says on the bottle. It has a light fragrance to it. It sort of smell like Johnson's baby powder. It doesn't make my hair oily/greasy. I have medium-length, fine Asian hair. I don't know if it'll work on other variety of hair, but it works for me (and my hubby). Lol.
