I've been using American Crew hair products, including this pomade for more than ten years. My hair is blond & fine (the strands themselves) which tend to be very dry & straight. This pomade feels natural to me, and it gives my hair a really nice shine with a controlled texture & spiky look. Pomade does contain an oily substance, so use is sparingly. I find it does much better when my hair is very short, because when it gets longer and thicker, it needs so much to do the job, that it becomes a grease job. It's not for everyone, so start out using a very small amount at first, or you'll end up looking like a 'greaser.'

Has very little hold or control factor for short hair. But will make your hair shine like crome! Smells bad (but wears off). If you're looking for shine then this is your product, otherwise it's not much good for anything else. I suppose if I still had my long rock star hair like in high school then this could serve a useful purpose. As it would probably work well for getting rid of the friz (adding the shine!), straightening(adding the shine!), and softening...don't forget the shine!

This is the first American Crew product I cannot recommend. It smells alright, but even from first getting it on your fingers to apply it you realize it's not going to hold up. It melts away into gloppy shards of product and once smoothed through my hair, seems like it's going to work. It does, for about a morning; once you're out and about its effectiveness wanes very quickly. It does remain fairly light in the hair, which is probably why its hold doesn't rank in the top three, but it feels less gunky later in the day, so maybe it's a trade-off.

Actually, I use this on my young Afro-American grandson, who has short, very curly hair. But since Crew is so thick, I have to take a dollop and spread it over my hands FIRST and then add water and mix before spreading it evenly over his hair and then working it in. If you get your hands wet first it is impossible to mix it with the water. But it leaves his hair moist and shiney-looking...and it has a very nice, light scent.

I've been very pleased with this pomade. I was afraid it might be too greasy, but it's not at all. I like the control (it's not too stiff), the shine, and the pleasant smell. My wife even surprised me with a "you smell good" comment.

My husband uses this product every day and it works really well. However, the product should usually be a clear gel and often times (it looks like a production problem) the product in the jar is cloudy and opaque and doesn't work as well.
