It's a little pricey, doesn't whiten quite as well, and it's smooth texture is not quite as cleansing as other pastes or gels. But the way it instantly sooths irritated, painful gums or teeth far outweighs the drawbacks. I sometimes mix it with regular toothpaste, right on my toothbrush, to minimize the sensitivity.

While this toothpaste tastes minty fresh and helps prevent cavities, I still have terrible tooth sensitivity. I've used this toothpaste for several years and maybe my sensitivity would be worse without it. I still find it impossible to eat ice cream and chewy sweet candy. It does nothing to help whiten my teeth, but that's not the most important thing for me. I will still continue to use it as there is really nothing else I can do.

What Makes Teeth Sensitive?
When the hard outer enamel layer of teeth is worn away or weakened, the softer inner portion called dentin is exposed. Tiny tubules, connected with the nerve bundles, allow the sensation of temperature extremes, tastes and even cold air to travel to the nerve center of the teeth, causing sharp pain. Brushing too hard, teeth grinding, gum disease and age can cause enamel loss. Over 80% of people who have their teeth commercially whitened also experience sensitivity due to the treatment process. Using this type of Sensodyne whenever brushing provides teeth with potassium nitrate (clinically proven to reduce sensitivity), while also protecting teeth against cavities. Recommended by 9 out of 10 dentists, Sensodyne provides fast relief and improvement in the appearance of teeth. Be sure to talk to your dentist about your sensitivity.
