For a person who has undergone head and neck radiation for cancer and has no saliva glands this works far better than regular brands of toothpaste. Provides more "glide".
All the biotene products are excellent. I have been on multiple medications which dry the mouth and can result in mouth ulcers. Since using Biotene products exclusively, I have not had one mouth sore! This toothpaste does not whiten like many other toothpastes, so it has less cosmetic benefit than others. However, because it contains flouride, it is effective in preventing cavities. Most importantly, it does not dry the mouth and thus protects it from sore and ulcers. ADDED BONUS FOR SINGERS: use the Biotene oral balance gel before performing and your mouth will stay moist!
This is sold as dry mouth toothpaste. I was looking for it to have similar benefits to the mouth rinse of the same brand. Not so. The package only says it is "not to irritate dry mouth" a very weak claim. It succeeds on that point, but so do all other toothpastes I use. I could say the same about a glass of water. Full of artificial sweeteners and colors. Even fluoride content is less than alternatives.
I have Sjogren's and I have been a faithful Biotene customer for years. I have preferred the Gentle Mint Gel rather than the Original toothpaste. Biotene no longer carries their Gentle Mint Gel but has released this product which contains fluoride. I understand the importance of adding fluoride to my oral health regimen, but I dislike it in this toothpaste. Instead of a pleasant tasting gel, it has an overpowering taste of artificial sweetness. If you've ever had a fluoride treatment in the dental office, this is what the taste is like. The new packaging has a hard to open cap. The toothpaste itself is foamy unlike the original gel which was low foaming. I have found that after a few hours, I have unsightly white dried on paste in the corners of my mouth which is one of the things I disliked about Biotene's Original Formula. I would much prefer the old Gentle Mint Gel and add my own fluoride treatment like I've been doing for years. Please bring the old product back and let the customer make the choice!
Adults and children over 12 years: Apply toothpaste onto a soft bristle toothbrush. Brush thoroughly after meals or at least twice a day or use as directed by a dentist or physician. Children 12 years and under: Ask a dentist or physician. Once recommended, to minimize swallowing for children under 6, use a pea-sized amount and supervise brushing until good habits are established. Store below 77°F (25°C).
