Burt's Bees Avocado Butter Pre-Shampoo Hair Treatment rates 5 out of 5 stars, from 175 customer reviews. The ONLY product I use for my hair!
by SLS Free[Verified Reviewer] in New York, NY on 2/5/09
Pros: Adds Shine, Gentle, Great Smell, Improves Hair Health, Improves Texture, Smooths & Softens
Describe Yourself: Product Junkie
Best Uses: Curly Hair, Daily Use, Deep Conditioning, Thick Hair
Hair Type: Wavy Hair
Bottom Line: recommended
I have curly hair that tends to be frizzy. I use to use products like Bumble and Bumble, etc but they have chemicals in them that did not agree with my skin problems. I have used this as a pre treatment and it's great for that. I now use it as a styling product after I wash my hair while it is still wet. You ONLY use a pea sized amount for medium length thick hair. It holds down the frizz and lets it curly beautifully OR lets me straighten it flat as can be! I seriously was given many compliments on my hair after I started to use this product as a styling aid. I am not sure that I would recommend it for people with flat thin hair since it does tend to weigh down the hair some. But for people with full hair that want some control, this is great. I can't use normal products b/c they disagree w/ my skin, but this one has been a great substitute. So if you are like me, trying to find something that works, try it. It can't hurt!

I want to say that I think many people who have written reviews for this product may have not read the directions! You put this stuff in your hair BEFORE shampooing, instead of after. So it sounds like some are just rinsing to rinse it out, which won't work. If used correctly, this product will make your hair very silky, also it can be used as a pomade to style with if you just use a dab.

Pros: Adds Shine, Gentle, Great Smell, Improves Hair Health, Improves Texture
Cons: Time consuming
Describe Yourself: Beauty Conscious
Best Uses: Deep Conditioning, Thick Hair
Hair Type: Straight Hair
Bottom Line: recommended
This product definatly makes my hair very soft and shiney. I have long mostly straight har that gets very frizzy in any kind of humidity....and I am currently living in Japan! After using this product it tames most of the frizz down and takes a lot less work to make my hair look nice. The smell is AWSOME! It smells like oranges, but may be strong for those that are sensitive to strong smells. If you buy this product follow the directions on the back! When I first purchaced this product, I tryed to put it on my hair while it was dry..and it just made a big mess. It also says to leave it on for 15 minits...and I wouldn't suggest leaving it on for one minit less than that! Over all it is a great product, but please use as directed!

Pros: Adds Shine, Gentle, Great Smell, Improves Hair Health, Improves Texture
Describe Yourself: Beauty Conscious
Best Uses: Daily Use, Fine Hair

Bottom Line: recommended
I put small amount on wet hair before shampooing. Shampoo and rinse. I have dry hair, so if I am in air conditioning or heat, I also apply minimal amount after shampoo and leave in hair.

Pros: Adds Shine, Gentle, Great Smell, Improves Hair Health, Improves Texture, Smooths & Softens
Cons: You have to use a lot
Describe Yourself: Beauty Conscious
Best Uses: Daily Use, Deep Conditioning
Hair Type: Straight Hair
Bottom Line: recommended
I use this before shampooing every shower. I leave it on for the entire shower and then wash and condition at the end. It smells like oranges. You do use a fairly large glob of it (as directed and because i have long hair) so the tube only lasts a few weeks (and i shower every other day rather than every day). It does add great shine and is well worth the price. I have repurchased.
Burt's Bees Avocado Butter Pre-Shampoo Hair Treatment rates 1 out of 5 stars, from 175 customer reviews.Should have paid attention to the review
by Nikki[Verified Reviewer] in Harrisburg, PA on 9/7/08
Pros: All natural
Cons: Ineffective, Makes hair frizzy
Describe Yourself: Classic
Hair Type: Normal
Bottom Line: not recommended
I followed the directions exactly. I have fine, curly hair. All it did was make it frizzy. My hair looked "untamed" the day after. Smells fine. Texture is fine. It simply does not work on my hair type. Maybe someone else will have better luck...not sure what hair type it is intended for.
Burt's Bees Avocado Butter Pre-Shampoo Hair Treatment rates 2 out of 5 stars, from 175 customer reviews.Didn't like, at all.
by Angie[Verified Reviewer] in Chehalis, WA on 7/22/08
Pros: Gentle
Cons: Ineffective, Leaves Residue, Too Heavy
Describe Yourself: Classic
Best Uses: Deep Conditioning
Hair Type: Normal
Unless you have really dry, damaged hair, I would stay far away from this stuff. It left my hair feeling really weighed down and greasy, and it took ages to wash out afterward.
Burt's Bees Avocado Butter Pre-Shampoo Hair Treatment rates 4 out of 5 stars, from 175 customer reviews.Great for the ends of long hair
by Veruca[Verified Reviewer] in Boston, MA on 7/20/08
Pros: Adds Shine, Gentle, Great Smell, Improves Hair Health, Improves Texture, Smooths & Softens
Cons: Hard to distribute
Best Uses: Long hair - ends
Hair Type: Dry
Bottom Line: recommended
I've been using this product for years, and I find it's better than most expensive styling products for making the ends of my long hair smooth and shiny, like when you just leave the salon. I use it about twice a week--a little more than a pea size amount, rubbed into my hands and then worked into the bottom 2-3 inches of my hair. I shampoo first, then put this in the bottom of my hair, and then work conditioner into the rest of my hair. I leave all that on for the rest of my shower, rinsing just before I'm done. The water and the conditioner help rinse out the avocado butter, and because I've only put the butter in the ends my hair is not weighed down. One tube lasts a really long time, too. As a matter of fact, I'm noticing that the current product's ingredients are not the same as the last tube I purchased. I'm hoping this isn't a degradation in the overall product... It really is also great as a finishing touch once you've styled your hair--but again, I'd only put it in the ends to avoid getting too weighed down.
