St. Ives Apricot Scrub for Oily or Acne Prone Skin rates 3 out of 5 stars, from 167 customer reviews.good but not for my acne
by JayV[Verified Reviewer] in CA on 5/30/09
Pros: Balances Skin, Gentle, Improves Skin Texture, Leaves Clean Feel, Moisturizing, Smells Great
Cons: Doesn't prevent acne
Describe Yourself: Budget Buyer
Best Uses: Combination Skin, Daily Use, Dry Skin
i'll start with the PROS: its very affordable, got rid of my blackheads, evened out my skin, takes off all the dead skin without having that drying effect that so many other scrubs have, and leaves my face feeling incredibly soft now for the CONS: this product failed in preventing acne. after a couple days of using it, i had acne in 4 areas of my face i'm gonna keep using it until its gone but i probably wouldn't buy it again

Pros: Gentle, Great for blackheads, Improves Skin Texture, Leaves Clean Feel, Not Greasy
Cons: CAN clog shower drains, Doesn't Remove Makeup
Describe Yourself: Brand Buyer
Best Uses: Combination Skin, Daily Use, Oily Skin
Bottom Line: recommended
I am the 42-yr-old mother of a 5-yr-old daughter and we both use this scrub. She has inherited my blackhead-prone skin in the nose and chin area. She uses it 2-3 times a week, but I use it every morning in the shower. I wouldn't use it to remove makeup, for that I recommend the St Ives Facial Cleanser/Makeup Remover, it takes off your makeup (even for people with oily or acne-prone skin) and leaves your face feeling really clean and soft. As for this scrub, believe me, I have used much more expensive brands that claim to deep clean your skin and get rid of blackheads and clogged pores but I always come back to this. The one con I have is this--be careful if you use this product every day in the shower, it can cause your shower drains to get clogged because the scrubbers don't dissolve in water, which actually is probably what makes this product so great for blackhead-prone skin.

So this face wash is AH-MAZING! It helped me get rid of 1/4 my acne in only a week; so don't expect to have all your acne gone in one wash! I also love that it has 2% salicylic acid(that helps get rid of acne) and it has a very nice, fresh fruity scent. I love it! Overall I give it 4 stars because 1) it doesn't get all of your acne gone, only your new "baby" ones. 2) it's a very good exfoliator since it has a sand- like texture which is good to get rid of old cells, just be sure to put on SPF lotion, but it is drying so on my oily skin it left my nose dry. And 3) it's bottle traps in a lot of water in the shower! BUT it is still a great acne treatment, def recommended! :D

I have tried many facial acne products before, including pricey brands such as Pro-Activ, but this is by far the best product I have ever tried. It doesn't dry out my skin like other acne products, it doesn't bleach fabric, and it is simple to use. I use it the shower every morning and sometimes before I go to bed. My acne problem was only moderate, and was helped a little by birth control pills, but the St. Ives Apricot Scrub completely cleared up my skin. The store brand versions of this product work just as well as the St. Ives original. Best of all, it is inexpensive and lasts a long time. The answer to ance is not always costly or hyped products, but simple solutions like this scrub.

Pros: Smells Great
Cons: Doesn't Moisturize

I tend to have combo skin, sensitive, mild acne at times so I thought I would give this a go. I wasn't sure how my sensitive skin would respond to the granules in this so I started using it just every other day and apparently that was too much. My normally oily t-zone was getting super dry-red, flaky and tight and my acne didn't seem to be getting any better (or worse for that matter). I'm going to keep using my neutrogena transparent facial bar and cut down to using this only 2-3 times a week and see if things improve.
