I use this as both a primer and as an overall even color. I hate the feel of foundation all over my face, and my combination skin makes it difficult to conceal the red spots because they're flaky. The amount of color coverage from this would be equivalent to tinted moisturizer, and it feels light like that on my skin instead of foundation-heavy. I do need to put a dab of Vaseline on the flaky bits before using this or this does have enough color to look chalky or cakey on the flakes, but so does EVERYTHING. It absorbs oil though the day about as well as any primer that calls itself oil absorbing (meaning I'm still shiny by lunch time in the T-zone), but a little tissue to blot with and my makeup stays put for the rest of the day. Smell is minimal. I haven't been sunburned while wearing it for up to an hour outside, so I guess that part works, too. This does need to be set with powder (I use Bare Escentuals hydrating mineral veil) and if I use this BB cream too thickly, it will settle in my creases, but I generally like the sheer look and light feel of this. I wish it came in a fair shade, because it's too dark for me in the winter, and it's WAY too dark for my daughter. She likes it, though, because it makes her look more even and doesn't cover up her freckles. I use a green tone correcting concealer on the worst redness in addition to this, and an under eye concealer for my dark circles, but this is a great all-over color even-er. Apply with fingers or a foundation brush. I can blend with a sponge (or beauty blender), but applying with one just doesn't get enough product on my face. I prefer this to the "matte" formulation because I haven't seen any oil-absorbing difference between the two.
