ALL SUNBLOCK with ... by Lisa V in Brentwood, CA on 7/17/06ALL SUNBLOCK with Titanium Dioxide will make you white and will spread on thick. It is a physical sunblock, not a chemical one. It is not supposed to work by absorption into the skin. If you don't put enough on, you will get burnt. Purchasers need to understand that when they buy Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide products. That said, I love this product. I get a severe allergic rash at ANY chemical sunblock, so I either look white or burn. The only one I've tried that's better is Mustela's Baby Sunblock and it is really pricey!
This product does turn a ... by Anonymous in Undisclosed on 7/16/06This product does turn a purplish-white but eventually blended in on me and I have medium tan skin. It is extremely gentle and is the only non-chemical UVA block available from Neutrogena, and at a reasonable price. If you want to use their UVA chemical block, I recommend the Ultrasheer Dry Touch formula.
It's not often I feel ... by sam in New York, NY on 7/7/06It's not often I feel compelled to write a review, but this sunscreen was the worst. First of all, it leaves skin totally whitish purple, so my kids looked like they were dressed for Halloween. The sticky texture made all the sand stick to my son's skin, into a gluey paste, which made him break out in a rash. What a disappointment! Meanwhile, they seem to have stopped making the great citrusy spray sunscreen, which my kids loved!
I have used this product ... by Gina in Undisclosed on 9/20/05I have used this product for 4 years. I have tried every pure titanium sunblock product on the market from the most expensive lines to the least but cannot find one that compares to the quality and texture of this product. I am extremely fair, sensitive to chemical blocks, and freckle when opening an oven. I have not seen one freckle on my face in four years. My colleagues call me a porcelain doll or Snow White. However, I am diligent with suncare by wearing it daily with sunglasses and a closely woven sunhat during the summer months. I don't look pasty because I blend it with Clinique Almost makeup SPF 15 and Clinique loose powder applied with a buff pad. I meet so many people that love my skin. It takes a few more minutes in my routine daily but I look natural or airbrushed with an almost flawless complexion from what many makeup counter artists tell me. This is sunblock for people who are serious about sun damage and will take some extra minutes to blend.
While this sunscreen was ... by Jann in MASON, OH on 8/30/05While this sunscreen was recommended by my dermatologist for my teenagers, they found that when they were in the sun and sweating, the lotion turned WHITE on their skin and seemed to sit on top o the skin rather than soak in. It looked bad, which made them feel embarrassed. So our bottle ended up in the garbage can.

If I could give this ... by Thomas in Hoboken, NJ on 6/12/05If I could give this product zero stars I would; it is the worst sunblock I have ever tried. It made me too white, too pasty and was terrible at preventing burning. I promise you don't want to waste your money.
I must disagree with most ... by Cindy in Undisclosed on 6/9/05I must disagree with most of these reviews. I was confused about which Neutrogena sunblock to use, since they all seem like the same. So I chose the one for sensitive skin, since I break out from any type of sunblock and HATE the oily feel when going out with friends. This sunblock feels good on my skin; it absorbs easily, and is not too heavy. There isn't really a smell either. Since I have fair skin it blends in. Other sunblocks were A LOT worse, and you could see them on my skin.
I have extremely ... by Aisha in Undisclosed on 5/8/05I have extremely sensitive skin, and have tried several types of sunscreens, including DDF's Sensitive Skin sunscreen. This one doesn't break me out or leave my pores clogged. On the flip side, I have a dark complexion (I use sunscreen because I use glycolic acid/aha on my face), so I have to mix this with another moisturizer so that my face doesn't look like a sheet.
Our pediatrician ... by Laura in Los Angeles, CA on 9/23/04Our pediatrician recommended this product for my son. It does turn your skin white, because it blocks the sun using titanium dioxide as a physical block, rather than using a chemical block like most sunscreens. This is also why it is less irritating. It is fantastic for very fair kids--more or less the same thing you use for diaper rash, so no worries about dousing them in unnecessary chemicals with unclear side-effects. But on adults with any color in their skin, it does look like you applied "ghost" or clown makeup. Also be forewarned that it is not waterproof, and will turn clothes white, too, (again because of the titanium dioxide), especially when you are struggling to apply it on a squirmy toddler!
